Occupy LA Plans to 'Occupy ICE' at Downtown Federal Building: Immigrant Crackdowns to be Protested

Categories: Occupy L.A.

Occupy L.A.'s City Hall encampment might be a thing of the past, but the occupiers continue to return to their Civic Center home for "general assembly" meetings and protests.

Today, demonstrators warn, the tents will return to the neighborhood, this time in front of the downtown federal building that's just around the corner from Occupy's former City Hall residence. The target of their ire?

Immigration and Customs Enforcement. They're calling it "Occupy ICE." And not the kind rednecks smoke, either.

The groups involved, including Good Jobs LA, several SEIU locals, ANSWER Coalition, CHIRLA (Coalition for Humane Immigrants Rights of Los Angeles), and the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor AFL-CIO, claim in a statement that ICE and the Department of Homeland Security have been "doing the dirty work of wealthy corporations by targeting hardworking immigrant families."

Huh? We're a little confused. We thought the 1 percent liked their baby sitters brown and their Walmart workers browner.

We guess their point is that the heat put on the allegedly undocumented and the people who look like them results in downward wage pressure (scratches head).

Here's what organizers say:

... Immigrant workers are part of the 99% ... The activists say that ICE agents are doing the work of the 1%, attacking workers like janitors who have sacrificed and struggled in efforts to turn poverty level jobs into good jobs.
Again, it's clear to us that famed area 1 percenters like Arnold Schwarzenegger are definitely pro-immigrant in their employment and procreational policies. Whatever.

Mike Garcia, president of SEIU United Service Workers West:

The 1% profits from fear. The fear of not being able to find a job. The fear of losing your house that you have worked hard for. And, the fear that immigrant workers feel that they may be separated from their children. But, we refuse to be afraid. We are going to fight back.

Starting at 11:30 a.m. demonstrators will march from Olvera Street (at 845 N. Alameda St.) to the federal building at Los Angeles and Temple streets.

They promise 2,000 workers will show up and that there will soon be "tents in front of the downtown federal building, which houses local ICE offices."

Cool.

We love those tents. They make for great photo ops. We have to imagine federal police and the nearby LAPD -- not so much.

These people should be occupying unionhalls; they should be protesting to get laborunion money out of politics. Whilethese occupiers cry that special interests have undue influence on thepolitical process, the SEIU is theFIFTH-largest political contributor of any third-party group since 1989, andhave doled out more than $37 million to political candidates, parties, andorganizations. In fact, five of the top 10 groups in terms of politicalcontributions are unions. In the past two elections, American labor unionsreported $2.2 billion in political expenditures. The SEIU spent more than$55 million on political activities in 2010 alone. The American Federation ofState, County and Municipal Employees--which alsosupports the Occupy protests--was the year’s most politically active union interms of expenditures, with more than $66 million going to its political activities.

The original Occupy Wall Street - Was a truly ingenuous idea to direct the public anger at the Financial System, the banks and Brokerages who have no face or single means of including all the contributing businesses into one Complaint by the people. The spread across the Country seemed promising, but, for example, Occupy Los Angeles?  What does the City of Los Angeles have to do (or could do) about the problem with the Federally Charged Agencies who are the only ones that can do anything (legally - it's up to the Federal Government).OCCUPY L.A. and all the other Cities that have misdirected the intent to call attention the the Banking System and really throw a blow to the possibility that the Original Occupy Wall Street MIGHT have had at effecting real change.IF there are plans to  re-Occupy L.A. , it needs to be AT A FEDERAL GOVERNMENT LOCATION (like the main Westwood Federal Building).  Get it right or go home.  There's no good protesting nothing to nobody there.

Occupy Wall Street needs to shut its stupid mouth. How dare they count every person in the ninety-nine percent they talk about as in with them. They do not have a right to speak for me.I like the rich. Many of them started with nothing or almost nothing.Steve Jobs and countless others became VERY rich after being very poor. They did not complain. They had ideas and went with them. The top one percent creates jobs. Our companies, stores, firms and on and on that employ millions were not started by poor people. They were started by the wealthy. Now, OWS states that the rich are our enemy.Great, go against those who create so much.Occupy Wall Street has got to be the most stupid bunch of idiots to ever band together. They have no real clue as to what they are doing. In Los Angeles, they accomplished nothing and left a mess that cost the city a lot of money. In Seattle, OWS blocked docks and tried to prevent people from going to work. Yet, they claim they want people to go to work. The entire Occupy movement is a joke. They talk for the entire ninety-nine percent, but of those ninety-nine percent of the people, about ninety percent are working.I live in Beverly Hills and I'm doing fine.I don't need Occupy Wall Street to tell me what to do. George Vreeland Hill

You are incorrect but thanks for being a Good German and going along with the propaganda.  You certainly know your place and that's a rare quality these days when people who just don't have the genes, upbringing, and class of our well bred elites are clamoring for the opportunity to have a job, live in a house, get health care, and so on.  Are there no work houses?  All these welfare bums who wish to get paid more than Chinese Slaves when if they had just had the good sense to be born into the right family they could simply retreat in the family jet to the Galapagos for roast turtle served by swarthy impoverished native folk.  Then back to Beverly Hills to service Satan and continue the lifestyle, because knowing who to serve is the most important thing of all.

And the radical Left, which is what the occupy movement really is, or has been co-opted by, sure knows who to serve. I noticed almost all the people in this movement, were wearing nice shoes, eating at fast food joints when they got hungry, and many were wearing designer jeans, and showing up in thirty thousand plus dollar SUV"s. to "protest". What might have been a good cause, has been co-opted by the very people you mentions. Michael Moore, Hollywood, and the left coasts, ARE THE 1%.

I have an appointment in that building next week with my real (lawful) immigrant wife, if any of these invaders or traitors get in my way, I will bust some heads.

Thanks for posting this threat of violence publicly.  I'm sure that it will be useful to prosecutors if you do attack someone.

Wow, California uber- lefties unhappy about immigration and employment laws being enforced. Now this is truly breaking news.

With the above story, I must modestly put a feather in my hat. From the day the "OCCUPY", movement started, I noticed that "white men" had a place at the back, if they wanted to "protest". This immediately proved the "OCCUPY"movement, consisted of the usual LEFTIST, INTERNATIONALIST, OPEN BORDERS, TRAITORS. NOW, they confirmed it in the above story. Good to know who your enemies are.

I as well an many Americans support the Occupy Movement because the protestors attack our our Global slave owners---- but Occupy people you continue to support illegal aliens when they come here to steal and then kill us American citizens AND YOU WILL LOSE SO MUCH OF YOUR SUPPORT! The support you need.

Please understand, THEY ARE INTERNATIONALISTS. AMERICA IS OPEN TO THE WORLD, IS THEIR PHILOSOPHY. INSANE, BUT TRUE.

How can the Occupy Movement allow itself to be hijacked by the Labor Unions into protesting against enforcement of immigration laws against illegal aliens??  The same illegal aliens that are stealing jobs and taxpayer funded services from the Occupy's 99 percent??  Many illegal aliens have found work by joining the SEIU!  Say NO to Big Labor and illegal immigration!

Bobby
Bobby

Because the "occupu" movement is OPEN BORDERS AND INTERNATIONALIST. What does this mean? It means American citizens are last on their agenda, REGARDLESS OF WHAT THEY CLAIM. I've already consigned them to the irrlevent trash bin.

Talk about IDIOTS.  Do these IDIOT protesters realize these illegal aliens are keeping them from jobs?

Let's face it. Our Federal Government has failed all of us in not enforcing our immigration laws. Look at how many anchor babies, (illegal alien children), the American taxpayers have paid for. Was it about 4.2 million over the last 16-18 years? Yes, that's you there, occupiers. Then we have to school these illegal alien children, the parents (parent) go on welfare, get food stamps, public housing and everything else. What does this cost the American taxpayer? How about the stolen identities, forged documents and fake green cards. Well, you can't blame the illegal aliens completely. We do have these UNAMERICAN people who hire these illegal aliens. Of course we have these illegal alien students who are DEMANDING we pass the DREAM Act so we can pay for their college tuition. How about the demonstrations of these illegal aliens DEMANDING we give them amnesty. Who do these people think they are? They have no right to be in this country, yet they are DEMANDING, yes, DEMANDING we give them amnesty. Well, I am DEMANDING we get our immigration laws ENFORCED! Look at the costs of deporting these illegal aliens. Look at the costs of the trials and jailing of these illegal aliens. Look at the costs of the law suits by la raza, the aclu and now the DOJ. Oh, don't forget the Catholic Church. Look at the BILLIONS sent out of this country by the illegal aliens. How does that help America? When is this all going to end? I will tell you. It will end when we get rid of all the illegal aliens. That's when. Do you still want to protest for the illegal aliens?

Sigh
Sigh

Makes too much sense, and the people in power will never allow anyone to undermine their plan to undermine Americain Democracy and obtain a new voter base.

Delaware, excellent post. If I were asked to state the solution to illegal immigration as simply as possible, it would be this, Americans need to grow some very large BALLS, AND START DETERMINING THEIR FUTURE IN THEIR OWN NATION. I doubt most would agree with the Occupy movement that that future is OPEN BORDERS.
