Shit White Girls Say to Latinas: VIDEO

Yes, the shit people say meme is going beyond its expiration date.

But, after viewing one video too many we've come to an understanding about the genre: The performances are often the most polite way ever of both making fun of a-holes (see Shit Westsiders Say) and shooting down stereotypes.

The meme is very millennial -- as in the generation:

It's not in-your-face or Occupy-your-stereotypes. It's DIY, subversive, indirect, viral and a little passive-aggressive.

Folks aren't leaving a note on your windshield to tell you you're being insensitive or even racist. They're having a laugh.

In "Shit White Girls Say to Latinas," actor/director Christina Igaraividez dons a blond wig and goes through a litany of white-girl-isms that seem harmless on the surface but clearly hurt a few feelings.

Hey, chica! Where were you born? Do you go tanning?

After "Shit Girls Say" (featuring Juliette Lewis!?) kicked off the genre last month with a lighthearted take on, well, shit girls say, a door was opened to several African-American responses and reprises.

The videos put stereotypers on notice while also exposing youth culture's mores.

So take "Shit White Girls Say to Latinas" as a checklist of things not to say to Latinas ... if you're a white girl.

The whole "Shit ___ Say" series has been generalities of a singular group of people wherein most, if not all cases, the skits were actually performed by the group it was making fun of.

Had the videos creator taken 5 minutes to get an actual white girl ( there is a million around happy to poke good natured fun at themselves ) for the role instead of dawning a cheap wig and talking like a valley girl, this video would have seemed much more lighthearted and less of a racial attack. It would have added to, and not taken away from the spirit of the series. I consider this particular video a complete failure and I'm also stunned that LA Weekly would feature it. They can't need page views so badly that they take from the TMZ school of getting readers.

This video should be done over and I think will be much more successful when the template and spirit of the series are followed. Otherwise, it only opens the door for others to stray away from the point as well.

What's that matter dude? What its ok to make fun of the mexican or Latino.........but when the roles are reversed you white folks get pissed, not fun isn't it. People stereotype Latinos all the time. Like thinking every Latino you see is mexican when intfact there's, Puerto ricans, Colombians, Spaniards, Hondurans, costa ricans, peruvans ect ect.......... or thinking that were all border crossers when in fact some of us were born here and NOT BROUGHT HERE!!!! .especially right now with all the talk of "SECURING" the borders and branding every Latino y'all see as illegals when in fact everyone living here that's not of indian blood is " AN ILLEGAL" so who's being racist here?

Perhaps, just perhaps, its the use of terms such as "us" being born here, and "you white folks" getting pissed, that is actually the most divisive language on this page.

As an LA-born white boy (quien habla espanol mejor que mas gente yo se), and sees at least the merit of the reconquista movement, I'm really over the low-brow racial comedy.

I know there is this whole supposed concept of "As long as everyone gets made fun of, it's all good," but it seems to always end in everyone's feelings getting hurt." How that brings us together, I know not.

Don't let the pretty colors distract you. The REAL powers that be (from Dubya to Vicente Fox) just want to keep the underlings bickering at themselves, and off their backs. It appears to be working.
