So you thought the party was at Drai's or maybe Los Globos tonight. Noooo. The rager of the century is happening right in the streets of the Miracle Mile.

Levitated Mass, that rock of ages that's headed to the L.A. County Museum of Art, is scheduld to reach its destination in the wee hours. And LACMA officials are, frankly, preparing for an impromptu street party. Really.

LACMA spokeswoman Miranda Carroll tells us:

We are expecting many crowds. We're excited. We just have to be mindful of our neighbors. We don't want to be noisy or have bands.

The museum, which won't be open, is setting up free parking and porta potties in anticipation of the crowds. Carroll says that the rock probably won't arrive at the museum near Wilshire Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue until between 4 and 5 a.m. at the earliest.

Them's raver hours. "There might be an impromptu one," Carroll says.

She added that a group has organized a 5k "Running of the Rock" that will have participants shadow the 21 feet tall boulder as it makes its way to Miracle Mile for its eventual installation outside the museum.

Party people can follow the mega-pebble's progress as it heads north from the South Bay and South L.A. here and on Twitter.

Rock 'n' roll.

I just don't get it.

For some reason, I couldn't care less about this $10 million exhibit.

Why couldn't they just leave the rock in Riverside and have everyone go there to see it?

Already seen it... It spent the night in my town so I'm already over it...

Jeff, was it $10 million worth of AWESOME?

I mean, I like rocks just as much as the next guy, but....

Yeah, but it wasn't ALL donor money meaning LACMA put up some cheddar also...

I drove over to see it because it was convenient... I'm just glad that the 10 million wasted was private money... I wont judge what an Idiot does with his money... Or, did I just do that?

@Christopher: No, you get it! If you want this kind of experience, you can go to the Mormon Mesa and walk through Double Negative, a double trench made by Heizer in 1969-1970. But here, here in LA, this is another experience. This other negative sculpture is a mix of contemporary and ancient materials (concrete+granite). It is not too be seen but to be experienced. Of course, it will be possible to make it directly on site but I'm not sure the owner of Stone Valley Materials will be very Ok to have a 456-feet-long trench in the middle of his quarry...

Yeah, but ten million for a rock when there are homeless and hungry people? If LACMA donated ten million to help feed people and support homeless services, I'd be MUCH more impressed.

Seems we haven't changed much since caveman times....the natives are still dancing around a rock.
