Valerie Nash Commits Suicide by Chainsaw at Her Palms Townhouse

Multiple units from the LAPD's Pacific Division responded to a call just after midnight that could have been a scene from The Chainsaw Massacre.

Though the incident was initially reported as a "possible murder" (according to Venice 311, who tracks the police scanner 24/7), investigators later found that the victim had apparently written a suicide note.

Valerie Nash, 47, was discovered dead in her bedroom by her sister around 12:40 a.m.

Horrifyingly, the woman's neck had been slashed with a chainsaw.

"Her sister came home and found her in her room deceased on the bed with a chainsaw wound to the neck," Sergaent Richard Parks tells City News Service.

Nash lived in the Palms area of L.A.'s Westside, right near Culver City (and, incidentally, a few blocks from the LA Weekly office.) Venice 311 Tweeted this photo of her townhouse this morning, once the "possible murder" had been reclassified as a suicide:

"3600 block of Keystone. Call after midnight for murder turned out to be suicide by chainsaw."
The L.A. County Coroner's Office tells the Weekly that an autopsy is pending.

Meanwhile, Sergaent Parks informs CBS LA that initial rumors of a chainsaw being tied to the victim's neck are completely false. And some guy on Twitter says he's "writing blues song about Valerie Nash, who died by CHAINSAW SEPPUKU in LA."

Update: The Los Angeles Times reports that Los Angeles Fire Department responders noticed Nash's body had decomposed some, indicating "she may have been dead for as long as a day."

The two sisters reportedly shared the townhouse on Keystone. Police tell the Times that the door to Nash's room "was jammed a little, and the sister was able to see her on the bed with a chainsaw next to her."

It is too cruel to herself, why not take some not-bloody way? OM.

My lover killed himself with a chainsaw in 2001 on Kaua'i.  He made it look like an accident so that the insurance would pay for his evil wife's horse farm. He was black-ops and had this last snuff-job to do - himself.

I don't care what anyone says, but that had to have f'kn hurt....what was her pain that she felt the need to finish herself off in such a sickening way....my sympathies to the family...

Yeah people typically kill themselves that way. Of course, why would a middle age woman in an apt have a chainsaw and why choose such a rediculous method. The MURDERER wrote the note and the police are luring him into a false sense of security. From what Ive heard, there have been a number of murders in that building over the years...

I live in the neighborhood and there have been NO murders in that building over the years.

i wonder if she tried to slice the whole thing off but died before she could completely behead herself. either way, this girl had balls, what an idealist.

How sad to feel so completely out of hope that you come to the conclusion that the sum of your life is worth committing suicide by chainsaw. There was a suicide last year that happened in front of me that never got reported in the press. How can they justify putting this woman's full name in the press when the one I witnessed last year didn't even register a blip in the news, and it was WAY more dramatic and public than this one. I thought that the news never reported suicides, they happen every day in this city. Why are they making such an issue over this one and making her name public? Probably because she used a chainsaw.

Yes I think the chainsaw is getting her fame. Not sure why they choose to list her full name though.

of all the ways to end it, why this way? she may have written a suicide note but one can wonder...

The headline implies that we should know who this woman is.  Otherwise it would say "47-year-old woman" or "Palms resident" instead of Valerie Nash.  idk

Eww, yuck. That really sucks for the sister who found her and lives there! I mean, what a mess - spiritually and otherwise.

i'm not sure, but judging from the article, it seems to be a lady who tried to cut her fucking head off with a chainsaw.
