Day Without A Mexican is Finally Here, California

You thought A Day Without A Mexican was just a movie. But more and more, the wildest dreams of anti-illegal-immigration activists are coming true.

California's population growth is coming to a halt, says a new USC study (PDF), and much of that is the result of decreasing immigration.

At the same time, the Pew Hispanic Center says, "The largest wave of immigration in history from a single country to the United States has come to a standstill." Yay! said the racists. But ...

... don't come whining to us when:

-Your fine German automobiles create a traffic jam on Rodeo Drive because they've been left unattended with no one to park them.

-Your lawns become verdant, umkempt jungles. You think the Japanese or, gasp, white teens, are going to make a return to the yard work industry? Yeah, right.

-Your hamburgers go un-flipped, your burritos go unfolded, your sushi goes un-rolled, and your dishes go unwashed.

-Professional soccer games are attended by three people.

-Plump white women walk down the street in utter silence.

You get the picture.

According to a summary of the USC Price School of Public Policy report:

... Growth among the main working age population ages 25 to 64 is expected to slow, and virtually all the projected growth, or 98 percent, is comprised of native-born children of immigrants, or second generation immigrants.

Feel better now, Minutemen?

USC says the Golden State won't hit 50 million residents until 2046, pushing back a 2007 projection that this landmark would be reached by 2032. (Our population today is 37 million-plus).

Dowell Myers, a professor of urban planning at USC, seems to suggest that this could get the cost of immigration off our backs:

This is surely good news for local governments and taxpayers who are struggling to keep up with the costs of growth.

But what about the benefits of immigration (including billions in taxes they pay)?

In fact, the study seems to ask, who will take care of all the retiring baby boomers? The number of seniors ages 65 and older will quadruple in California in the next 20 years, the report states. There aren't that many Filipina nurses in California. (We kid. Sort of).

We're becoming Florida. Del Boca Vista (Phase II), here we come ...

Meanwhile, Pew says "the net migration flow from Mexico to the United States has stopped--and may have reversed ... "

Talk about your self-deportation.

From 2005 to 2010 1.4 million Mexican came to America. Orale! But 1.4 million Mexicans went back to Mexico. Ay Dios mio.

Pew:

The standstill appears to be the result of many factors, including the weakened U.S. job and housing construction markets, heightened border enforcement, a rise in deportations, the growing dangers associated with illegal border crossings, the long-term decline in Mexico's birth rates and changing economic conditions in Mexico.

So rejoice, immigrant-bashers. And stop making an issue of it. Unless you're ready to admit that work's not getting done around here.

Before anybody goes hog wild over any of these purported poll findings, know this. The assumptions used to arrive at the conclusions vary from those of 2011, why? An obvious attempt at obfuscation of the "real" facts? Lastly, this was put out by U.S.C. through the Sol Price School of Public Policy with Dowell Myers of the Population Dynamics Research Group co-writing the poll. A lot said right there!

Gee, isn't it considered racist to assume immigrants are just mowing lawns, parking cars, and oogoling fat white women?

Illegal or Legal immigration  has stopped not only"MEXICANS" but people from other countries don't want to be here, I don't blame them ,the greed in America surpasses anything, I really wish we Americans were welcoming and friendly to other cultures but unfortunately we can't and that's our demise as a "Culture"

We've got enough other good people from Central and South America to cover for the loss of Mexicans.

Dude, really? I would've respected this article if it actually showed both sides of the coin... but to point out all supposed positives without the obvious issues of what illegal immigration costs cities and this country?  Puleaze it's common sense.  And to call people "racist" for not liking illegal immigration is downright ignorant fear mongering.  Guess what? Mexicans aren't the only illegal immigrants here!  Millions come here illegally from all over the world?  Where are the statistics on how many crimes and murders are committed by illegals who then run back to Mexico or Canada or wherever without ever being held accountable for their actions?  I've seen pay go down in jobs I used to do .. what once paid easily $20/hour with Spanish speaking being a bonus is now $12-14/hour and you must speak Spanish.  It's simple supply and demand economics.  How about people stop taking advantage of cheap labor and pay decent wages and guess what, Americans will happily do these jobs as they've done before. Hopefully we can look forward to getting our $20/hour again and have cheaper housing.  And help create programs for those in need as we do all over the world.  Check out El Faro orphanage... Americans help, through this organization, to feed and house orphan children in Mexico.  We can also look forward to clearer freeways.  Check out this link on why too much immigration anywhere in the world does not help the poor ... but what can help the poor is creating organizations within people's own countries that help them help themselves. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

Your blog is flawed dramatically. You need to quit referring to "illegal immigration" as "immigration".  There is a major difference and it doesn't take much intelligence to understand exactly what these differences happen to be.  You also need to hold your race card... A citizen of this nation isn't racist because they don't want "illegal" immigration happening and you're putting your words in others mouths.

Another thing. America won't shut down without illegal labor.  Actually the opposite.  Wages for construction workers will go back to being competitive, same goes for young entrepreneurs who can now run their own lawn service company without having to compete with illegal labor that will do it for an unfair price.

Also, in the midwest we put our kids to work in their teens, teaches them responsibility.  It's not uncommon to see teens and young adults working most of the jobs you listed after school, during the summers, and in-between high school and college... this includes flipping burgers, being a car porter, bagging groceries, farm work, warehouse work, and the list goes on.

Name one other country on this planet where you can just walk across the border and say "I live here now" ... without going through some sort of formal procedure. Please, just one?

Illegal immigration is a problem but became a larger issue simply due to our government illegally immigrating our jobs overseas and corruptly letting wall street rule our country, then tear it into pieces. We are hypocrites to cry now that the shit has hit the fan when for decades prior we have been perfectly content to exploit the cheap labor and great deals for great work this brought us. Funny, how at the same time we cry about the cost of immigration, so many Americans shop at places like Walmart, where the majority of product purchased is made outside America for wages that are illegal here. The real underlying issue here is fair trade rules where we can once again have a better balance of the production of goods back to being "Made in The USA" where we stop our Government (aka. Wall Street and Corporations) from flooding our Country with product that exploits cheap labor. We need to wake up and not fall for this scapegoat put out there to distract us from the real problem here. The government itself and its systems that are not working properly. We need to take responsibility for allowing this to begin and make the change to correct the issues at hand. We are a country of many different nations. Blaming a race will not fix the problem.

So perfectly written.  Couldn't have said it better! And check out this video that uses gumballs as an analogy for the poor in the world... recognizes how we can't even make a dent in poverty by just allowing floodgates of poor into our country, or any country for that matter.  Also, tired of people pulling the race card falsely as you so aptly put.

They're clearing going back to Mexico because there are no jobs due to the poor. Fewer people are hiring housekeepers . Fewer people valeting their cars. More people mowing their own lawns. The jobs are disappearing.

Due to the poor economy. Stupid phone.

i get the humor...i do i do..however, the non-Mexicans that valet cars in Burlington, Vermont could replace L.A.'s deserted valet stands(after all it doesn't take a genius to park a car)...family owned black lawn crews from South L.A. could make a fortune bidding on landscaping contracts...anyone who wants a job and has at least one hand can flip a burger/fold a burrito/roll sushi/wash a dish...the plump white women can/would/will receive their attention from anyone into plump white women...sadly, soccer attendance would drop dramatically...i should be the mayor of L.A...problems solved...again, i get your humor...it's just in really really bad taste...

The rich fat kats will miss them, the working class and middle class who mow thier own lawns, and force thier kids to work at Jack in the Crack as they wont have to compete with 40 year olds....won't by any means miss them.......Maybe I wont have to put up with foreign flags waving in my country, or listen to booming rancheras or honking at 4:00AM to pick up someone to work at Jacks,........

What the study didn't show is how many of those 1.4 million (we'll say 700,000 couples with 5 kids each) had children in the US. Let's see... 700,000 x 5= 3.5 million - the 1.4 million that reportedly went back= 2.1 million. Wow... things are much better. That's over half the population of LA that still remain.
