As the sun went down on Tuesday evening, a young father died in a heroic effort to save his 8-year-old son from street gunfire.

Fredrick Martin, 28, was shot twice in the chest and stomach after pushing his son to the ground at the last second -- ultimately saving the kid's life.

The 7 p.m. shooting in the 3200 block of West 109th Street...

... was oddly one of three shootings throughout Inglewood that evening, according to City News Service. Inglewood police have not identified any connection between the three outbursts of violence.

At 10:20 p.m., a 25-year-old Inglewood man was found riddled with bullets in a crashed car at Victoria and 81st. And at 11:30 p.m., a couple miles to the northwest, a 31-year-old man was found shot in both legs.

Martin, the father who saved his child, is listed on Facebook as graduate of Westchester High School and Texas Southern University. He says he's married to Amanda Martin -- their one-year anniversary would have been on May 11.

A friend on Twitter says that "he got shot at his house. It's looking like a random act of violence."

We've contacted the Inglewood Police Department to see if their investigation shows the same -- that Martin and his 8-year-old were merely in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The small child was grazed by one of the bullets, but thanks to his father's bravery, came out of the street shooting alive.

Immensely sad God bless this man and his family.  Words can't convey the sorrow that this young man is now without his father.
