Katie Wilkins, 25-Year-Old Graphic Designer, Found Dead in Malibu Garage; BMW Missing

Update: "Katie Wilkins May Have Overdosed on Heroin With Chris Benton, Pepperdine President's Son."

A young graphic designer described by her father as "well-liked" was found dead in the garage of her parents' house, where she was apparently staying, on Saturday night.

The body of Katherine Jessie Wilkins (or Katie Wilkins), 25, was reportedly discovered by her brother Steve. But strangely, when he came across her body, the victim's silver BMW had vanished.

"Somebody stole her car..."

"... so we're working with the police detectives to try to find leads to try to find out who may have done this," Rob Wilkins, her dad, tells ABC7.

The coroner hasn't yet finished an autopsy on young Wilkins, but her family has been telling reporters that L.A. County Sheriff's homicide detectives are looking into possible foul play.

Their upscale home is nestled into the hills above eastern Malibu, on a somewhat remote cul-de-sac surrounded by a couple dozen other houses. It's positioned somewhere along West Moon Shadows Drive:

Wilkins' car is a silver 1998 Z3 model with a red interior and a license plate number of 4AMN588, according to City News Service. Anyone with any information regarding her mysterious death can call homicide detectives at (323) 890-5500.

"This car belongs to 25 yr old Katie Wilkins-who was found dead in the garage of her Malibu home. Car is missing"
The victim's brother further speculated that Wilkins may have been with someone in the garage before she died.

"It looks like someone was there with her, and maybe is scared or doesn't know how to come forward," he tells the Los Angeles Times. "We're not angry. We're not upset with anyone who might have been with her. We just want them to come forward and help bring some closure to Katie. She was loved by a lot of people."

On what appears to be the victim's business website, she says she attended the Art Institute of California in Orange County, and later interned at Kapture Vision in Newport Beach. "I am a creative designer specializing in identity, branding, advertising, layout, and package design," she writes. "My skill set includes digital illustration, typography, web design and photography, and is constantly growing as the design industry evolves."

If someone killed Wilkins, it would be the first murder in Malibu this year.

Malibu officials pride themselves on the city's low homicide rate, and like to keep it at zero, if possible. They raised a huge fuss earlier this year when the death of a restaurant worker was erroneously reported as a murder, and made sure the public knew it had only been due to the victim's own poor health.

Update, 10 a.m.: The plot thickens. KNX news radio is reporting that when Steve Wilkins found his sister, the washing machine was running and food was on the stove. The dog had also gotten out -- indicating, again, that someone may have left in a hurry. We've contacted sheriff's detectives for the latest.

Update, 3 p.m.: Sheriff's Lieutenant Dave Dolson says that although "it appears that there was no foul play involved" in Wilkins' death, investigators are "still looking for the car" as the L.A. County Coroner's Office conducts toxicology tests.

Dolson says locating the car will "help put some pieces together" -- including the possibility that she was with someone at the house before she died.

I hope that pice of shit chris benton finally gets put away. He has been a scum of malibu society since he was a young teenager. Please get this monster far away, either jail or an insane asylum would be nice.

Car remains missing.  Last known contact will not share what he knows with the family or investigators.  This last known contact never revealed his contact with Katie before her death during the days following her death.  At the point during the investigation when it was found that he had contact with Katie Wilkins hours before she died, he lawyered up and has been defiantly silent to Katies family and investigators.  This last known contact to Katie Wilkins before she died is Christopher A. Benton, son of Pepperdine President Andy Benton.

It is not hard to imagine who hired the lawyer here and who decided it would be a "moral" thing to do to put Christopher A. Benton in a drug rehab facility where Chrisopher enjoys protection from his accountability (good or bad) in the death of Katie Wilkins. In private the Benton family claimed ignorance to Katie's death when they were contacted for answers regarding Christopher A. Benton.  Another part of the unethical/immoral defiantly silent posturing they have engaged in since it was revealed Christopher A. Benton had some answers that the family deserved and demands to know.

After some pressure Andy Benton released a well crafted statement.  That statement should be criqued given it's timing (much too late) and it's motives.Keep putting pressure to have the case seen as possible foul play so that the facts may be found as soon as possilbe.

Christopher A. Benton's unethical gamble of remaining defiantly silent in the investigation should not be tolerated by the community let alone the those who hold Pepperdine University in the high regard it deservers.

Such a said thing to happen to a beautiful young woman. As parents, we can never imagine what it is like to loose a child. Our hearts go out to our friends and neighbors The Wilkins. May God rest her sweet soul. The Kaliakin Family

I'm SteveWilkins, Katie's brother.  I found Katiedead in my parent’s garage during the afternoon/evening of April 28th.  She died sometime between the late eveninghours of April 27th and the morning hours of April 28th.

Though wecherish our memories of Katie and keep them close to our hearts, Katie’s deathhas remained a torment for our family. We work to accept her passing and honor her in our future endeavors andwell being.

Nothing Ibelieve about her death has changed my love and cherished memories with herduring her 25 years of life.  She was anamazing and beautiful woman and she touched many people’s hearts in meaningfuland lasting ways.

A drugoverdose is something I am willing to accept. What I am not willing to accept is a person cleaning up drugparaphernalia, taking her car, and leaving her to die or dead.  We have at least 5 phones in my house, one afew feet from where her body was found. I know someone was there at the home with her before she died; her carkeys are missing from the home, her car is missing from the home, there was nodrugs/drug paraphernalia found at the home. Her car remains missing and no one has come forward with any informationabout it.  No one has come forward abouther whereabouts on the evening of April 27th.

April 28thI wanted answers, nothing.  April 29thI wanted answers, nothing, April 30th I wanted answers, nothing.

Aftersuccessfully unlocking her cell phone, I looked at Katie’s phone log to checktxt messages for indications of her contacts and plans leading up to her death.

ChrisBenton, son of Pepperdine University President Andy Benton, is the last knownperson to have been with Katie Wilkins before her death.  I have text messages showing a plannedmeeting between Katie Wilkins and Chris Benton on April 27th at8:30PM.  At 8:33PM video surveillancefrom the Malibu Mc Donald’s restaurant shows Katie, in her 1998 BMW Silver Z3,pulling into the McDonalds parking lot, Chris entering the car as a passenger, and just the two of them driving away. This is her last known whereabouts before she was found dead at ourfamily home on April 28th.

When ChrisBenton was contacted for questioning about his involvement with Katie on thenight of April the 27th he chose to hire an attorney rather thanprovide any help in the ongoing investigation. He did not provide any details about his txt messages, nor any detailsabout his meeting with Katie at Mc Donald’s, nor any details about the missingcar, nor any details about what transpired between the two of them later on inthe evening of April 27th. Chris Benton was the last known person to see Katie and he has not saida thing to her family during the 6 days following her death.

I haveindication that Chris Benton was entered into a drug treatment facility onApril 28th.   He has not beenquestioned; he has not made himself available for questioning.

Given he nowhas a highly regarded attorney and has found himself in a drug treatment rehabfacility, it is important to note that I believe that Chris Benton indicatedstrongly in his txt’s to Katie that he had no steady job.

It was with sadness and heavy heart I attended the service for Katie on Saturday. What a lovely showing of love and support for your family by those in attendance.

Steve, I'm disturbed that there has been no further press on this. Also, someone has removed from Google any updates, like the the famous attorney hired, etc. I hope Malibu detectives don't sweep this under the rug. You deserve the truth.

Since you included the previous death of the Guido's restaurant worker, Carlos Rodas, maybe you'd be interested in knowing that the authorities are still not releasing any coroner reports or further investigative information.  It's been over 6 weeks with no cause of death, no further information at all.   Why are security holds placed on this?  What are the intentions or results expected by invoking security holds?  Why wasn't the family allowed to view their loved ones body and has that been remedied or is Carlos still the property of the authorities rather than released to his family for burial?  Check into this one again please. I'm very saddened that Katie Wilkins passed away, tragic end to a young and promising life.  RIP Katie, prayers for her family and friends who have a huge loss to contend with.
