Marijuana's 4/20 Holiday Inspires Free Home Drug-Test Kits for Paranoid Parents

It's 4/20. Happy holiday, stoners.

Do you know where your bud is? More importantly, if you're a parent, do you know where your kid is?

A group called Not My Kid is warning you (PDF) that many teens try weed for the first time on April 20. It's even distributing home drug-testing kits to scare the hell out of Southern California teens on this holiest of high holidays:

A press release from the organization starts with this anecdote:

When  Richard  was  18  he  tried  marijuana  for  fun  with  a  new  group  of  friends.  In  the  weeks  that  followed,  he  tried  ecstasy,  cocaine  and  meth.  Within  a  month  of  smoking  pot  for  the  first  time,  he  was  doing  heroin  -  and  his  parents  had  no  idea.

Happens all the time! Wait. What? It doesn't? Of course it does. There are many studies linking the meteoric rise in heroin use to the 4/20 holiday. Wait, there's no meteoric rise in heroin use after April 20?

Bad bud.

Oh well, the point is, people, that ...

... on  April  20  (4/20),  also  known  as  "National  Get High  Day," many  kids  around  the  world  will  try  a  variety  of  drugs  for  the  first  time  and  parents  need  to  understand  the  profound  risks.

Side effects include:

-Getting laid.

-Having a good time.

-Loopy conversation.

-Pizza!

-Dubstep appreciation.

But seriously, yesterday these fuckers distributed home drug test kits to parents in L.A., Orange and San Diego counties in anticipation of 4/20. WTF.

As a parent I really don't care what others parent allow their kids to do or what other kids think is best. My concern is my child and what's best for mine and neither marijuana or acohol is the best thing. When you smoke or drink it may start small but can also get boring and you want to try other things. Everyone is different and what might not affect one might affect another in a different way. So what might seem senseless to one person or thinking parents or over reacting must be a child themself. True you can smoke marijuana get the munchies and take a nap, but what happens when you want to get in a car and your judgement is off, or effects you in a way that don't effect others and cause you to do some dumb shit to get you in trouble? So if you're blessed enough to have parents/ parent in your life that takes the time to love, care and worry about you, you are truly bless. Some parents don' t have the time to check on their kids or worry about what they are doing.

Why is it that parents get upset when they discover their kids are consuming alcohol, yet freak when it's cannabis? Alcohol kills daily. Cannabis has yet to kill anyone.

I see on the news almost daily all the problems alcohol causes. I rarely see anything about any problems that cannabis causes. I see lots of lies from our government and those who oppose cannabis. I also see lots of glamorizing of alcohol use. Maybe that's why alcohol causes us so many problems.

We are lead to believe that alcohol is the party favor of choice. Maybe that's why kids are dying in collage from binge drinking. Binge smoking will lead to a nice long nap, not death. Yet, the parents continue to freak out…driving the kids to alcohol, the party favor of choice.
