By presidential proclamation, it's Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month.

And on that note, let us reflect upon the latest U.S. Census statistics, which show that ... Asians are taking over America!

And you thought Latinos knew how to procreate and or get into the United States? Check out these facts and figures:

-There are 17.3 million people in the United States of Asian heritage.

-California has more people of Asian background than any other state: 5.5 million.

-Hawaii is a majority-Asian state: Asian Americans make up 57 percent of the population there.

-Between 2000 and 2010 our Asian American population from coast to coast grew faster than that of any other ethnic group:

Take that, Latinos!

In fact America's Asian population grew by 30 percent in all states except Hawaii, where its growth was 11 percent, according to the Census, which adds:

The top five states that experienced the fastest growth were Nevada with 116 percent, Arizona with 95 percent, North Carolina with 85 percent, North Dakota with 85 percent, and Georgia with 83 percent.

Damn. That's the cowboy/redneck belt. Good luck.

If Asians are increasing in such large numbers, we'd like to see a proportional representation in political bodies.  Let's start with the LA City Council, which does not have a single ASIAN member and about half a dozen Latinos and three African Americans out of proportion with their population.  We hope the Korean-American community starts the fireworks over the recent gerrymandering done by the current City Council to keep Asians out of political power.

I'm sorry, what is the aim of this "story"? using phrases like "that that, Latinos!" and wishing the Asian population "good luck" as their demographic grows in the "cowboy/redneck belt" -- what are you trying to achieve? Are you asking that the conservative anti-immigrant supporters take the heat off Latinos and put it on Asians? Or are you insinuating some sort of competition between Latinos and Asian populations? MAN, the people who get journalism jobs these days....

Thanks. Always good to hear from trolls about my job performance. I'll stick that in my file.

I'm asian and live in CA.  I can't believe CA is not on that list.  Irvine has grown in Asian population like no other and it's growing rapidly.  10 years ago, there were hardly any.
