A man friends identified as Bobby Khamvongsa died in a stabbing blocks from Beverly Center over the weekend.

A freelance TV journalist at the scene said the victim was wearing women's clothes, according to City News Service.

Police said the attack punctuated a heated argument about 1:30 a.m. on Saturday in the 300 block of North Orlando Avenue, which is near Beverly Boulevard and just a few blocks east of Beverly Center. The suspect was identified by the LAPD this weekend as ...

... as 29-year-old Richard Herrera, who was arrested in connection with the homicide.

It appears that cops went to the scene based on reports of a possible hit-and-run with a man lying in the street, but when officers arrived they found the stabbing victim.

Weho Daily reported that the victim was declared dead at the scene by paramedics.

A friend named Elijah Wade Jacobson posted on Facebook that the man was Bobby Khamvongsa:

Just found out that one of my friends, Bobby Khamvongsa, was stabbed to death in LA yesterday morning. Please keep his friends/family in your thoughts and/or prayers ...

At least one other friend tweeted an "R.I.P." message about Khamvongsa.

On his Facebook page, Khamvongsa posts a few photos of himself with and without makeup.

Despite the arrest, cops are still looking for witnesses or anyone with background about the argument. If you can help call detectives at 213-382-9470.

Bobby was a close friend of mine and it honestly disgusts me the way that some of these so called "reporters" and "journalists" have portrayed him. It seems as if they need to go back to school and learn how to properly write...with tact and sensitivity.

Sensationalizing this story with info about the victim being dressed as a woman is just so homophobic/transphobic and plain wrong on so many levels.

I didn't know Bobby, but his death affected me.  I heard of him on facebook through one of my friends. I went to Bobby's facebook page and scrolled through his pictures. His smile and personality in those pictures made me realize that a lovely soul had died. I don't know what happens to us when we die, but it's a comforting thought to know that people like Bobby will be there waiting for us. RIP Bobby, you were loved and still are. Philip E. Mizell

this whole coverage is horrible what does it matter that he posted pics on his Facebook with and without makeup on or that he was dressed as a woman? the whole point is that a wonderful and loving person was murdered and what a loss that is for everyone that knows him

I was a roommate of his with along with several other people and I can tell you RIGHT NOW that the man was not a cross dresser. I saw him go out every weekend and he NEVER wore womens clothing. Get your facts straight! Everyone is hearing about this one. P.S., I am a straight man and telling it as it is. THAT was a GOOD MAN, fix your article

hm, "that was a good man", so you are saying if he dressed as a woman he would not be a good man/person? I dont agree with that, I think everyone should dress how they want to, personally Im a born person with female gender but I dont identify as that, I see myself as a 3rd gender and something inbetween:)

Sincere condolences go out to this man's family and friends.

And to the writer of thIs article, I hate to point out that this article was poorly written, but it was and I think that you need to work on proofreading. And I would agree with the previous anonymous poster that you could have written this more professionally and thoughtfully. It seems as though you just decided to put a bunch of random irrelevant information to make a paragraph. it just seemed a little disrespectful.

This is so tragic. I did not know Bobby personally but am from Hawaii and share friends in common. Love and prayers going out to his family and friends.

To LAWeekly: There is no indication in the article that his attire had anything to do with his murder. So why is this fact highlighted in the title? It gives the impression that the victim was somehow at fault. This is absolutely not the case. I hope future articles bearing such tragic news can be written more professionally and thoughtfully.

Dear Mr. Romero:

If you had done further research via Bobby’s Facebookaccount (P.S. -- An unidentified “journalist” IS NOT considered an acceptablesource.), your readers would also learn that Bobby Khamvongsa was anexceptionally gifted PROFESSIONAL makeup artist and hairstylist.  He graduated from MUD (Make-up Designory) andworked with Charlize Theoron and other household names.  He’s originally from Honolulu, Hawaii andmoved to Los Angeles to further his career in film and television artistry.

He was a beautiful human being who will be forever loved andadmired.  I was so fortunate to have hadthe opportunity to know Bobby.   He was abrilliant light in my life.  He reflectedbeauty, compassion and love to everyone. He was funny and brought so much joy to us.  He had so many gifts, so many amazingattributes beyond the one-dimensional write-ups in the media.

This is an example of the same story SANS sensationalism:
