LAPD Gun Buybacks to be Crashed by Pro-Firearms Group Sons of Liberty LA

A Second Amendment rights group called Sons of Liberty LA says it plans to protest and intervene during the city of Los Angeles' annual gun buyback program this weekend.

The city plans to offer up to $200 in gift cards for weapons turned into cops at six locations across the city Saturday (PDF).

Sounding radical and maybe even a little scary, the group states:

The City/Regime wants to condition the public to the idea that they are safer if they are defenseless, disarmed. This is a fraud. It needs to be exposed so that people, especially women will have and use the best means available to defend themselves, that usually means a firearm.

Uh, yeah, so a statement sent to the Weekly from Sons' rep Bruce Boyer says the group's attorney yesterday filed a request for a protective order from the city in federal court that would allow its members to attend the buybacks without police harassment.

Boyer says at least two members of Sons of Liberty LA, along with an attorney and a videographer, will be at each site: They will attempt to steer folks with guns in their trunks (regular handguns and rifles get $100 gift cards; assault-type weapons get $200) to gun stores where he suggests they might get much more.

Some of the org members will give free estimates of what the weapons are worth on the used market: The group suggests that no one would want a gift card over cash unless they're trying to get rid of evidence:

Any firearm turned in may NOT be used as evidence in a criminal prosecution. This allows criminals, murderers, to dispose of their murder weapons with 100% immunity. LAPD and the politicians know this full well, yet the still run this scam, this clearly shows their focus is political, not safety.

The Sons argue that the buybacks don't get guns off the streets -- gangsters can still get weapons, and the ones turned in are usually junkers used for parts -- but that they do get good press for politicians.

Talking point: Twenty years ago, the 1992 Los Angeles Riotsclearly demonstrated that the LAPD and the City Council could not protect thelaw abiding residents of Los Angelesfrom rioters. Over fifty people werekilled in those riots because the call to the police went unanswered. But people to understood their Right todefend themselves did not fall victim to the riot and looting. You will note from this video that one of thebusinesses that was left unprotected was looted and destroyed by rioters. The second half of the video shows armedbusiness owners protecting their storefront. Notice the extreme contrast between the two. The store that was protected was quiet andpeaceful while just down the block, the rioters victimized otherbusinesses. Stunning.

i am so sick of the lies that come from our elected goverment and media and the press and those in office here in California that don't get . look at L A riots if the people did not have the weapons to protect them selves it would have been a lot worse than it was . you did not see police running in to protect anyway they ran the other way and after a few days they called the united states Marines in for help. and they were armed. so what dose that tell you ? you will never be safe from crime here in L A. The criminals will always be armed even after they take away our rights as americans . the video of the riots proves it . wait i know all the people in that video were law bidding citizens . wrong. look at you second amendment rights they are about to be infringed upon. don't let the media fool you any longer.
