Jamie Lynne Grumet, L.A. MILF Breastfeeding on Cover of TIME, Sees Her Blog Crash Amid Controversy

TIME Magazine
What of it.
Updated on Page 2: Think the TIME cover is bad? Grumet has photos of herself nursing both her 3-year-old and 5-year-old at the same time.

Updated on Page 3: Jamie Lynne Grumet on the Today show on Friday morning, explaining why she thought the cover image wasn't fair.

So of course you've peeped the new cover of TIME Magazine. The story's about attachment parenting, and its cover star is (unavoidably young, hot) L.A. mommy blogger Jamie Lynne Grumet. Annnd she happens to have a three-(going on four)-year-old attached to her left nipple.

Grumet is part of a new wave of moms, led by Irvine doctor and serial book-writer Dr. Bill Sears, who embrace the comforts of keeping their children very, very close well into preschool, TIME reports.

Before her cover gig, 26-year-old Grumet spread the gospel via her personal blog, IAmNottheBabysitter.com, an apparent reference to her unavoidable youngness/hotness.

But as of this morning, because the Internet is having a monster panty-twist about Grumet's son Aram still breastfeeding at toddler age and because the Internet MUST KNOW MORE, the server for IAmNottheBabysitter.com has "reached the maximum amount of processes."

Meaning, blank white page with error text. Boo.

"Oh my gosh! Aram and I are on the cover of @timemagazine," writes Grumet on the Facebook page for her blog, which has the awesome tagline, "Transracial family by way of birth and adoption. Join the chaos."

Sorry, angry mob -- looks like your fury can't be fed until Grumet's host gets a handle on her new notoriety.

For now, some highlights from TIME's supplemental interview with L.A.'s most fawned-over new MILF:

Tell me about becoming a mom and breast-feeding your children.

We were starting the process of adoption when I got pregnant. We weren't expecting our biological son at all. He was born two months early, and premies that age don't have a sucking reflex. The nurses in the NICU -- they kept trying to put him on formula. I couldn't see him for three days because I was so sick. I was basically passed out from the medication they were giving me. My husband is so great -- he would bring the equipment in and actually do the pumping while I was asleep. It was a full family effort. My mother breast-fed me until I was six years old until I self-weaned. Her encouragement to breast-feed is why we were so successful.

And your adopted son?

We were able to bring our son home in November 2010. I know so many amazing women who have induced their lactation, but I had milk [from feeding my biological son]. I had one of the easier situations as far as adoptive breastfeeding is concerned, but it was considered extended breastfeeding. And it was transracial. And he was adopted. I was ready for attack as soon as I posted one of the pictures [on my blog].

Being able to give him that [comfort] with the trauma that he faced was really, really important to me. But I didn't realize how much it would help my attachment to him. When his English improved, because the connection was there, he didn't do it as much. So now he'll do it maybe once a month.

What's [your memory of breast-feeding] like?

It's really warm. It's like embracing your mother, like a hug. You feel comforted, nurtured and really, really loved. I had so much self-confidence as a child, and I know it's from that. I never felt like she would ever leave me. I felt that security.

Coincidentally, another L.A. mom was just recently busted for breastfeeding at LACMA. Katie Hamilton claimed she was "rudely harassed by an employee for feeding my baby in the most normal and natural way that a baby can be fed."

The martyr at the center of this mommy movement seems to be Irvine's Dr. Sears, described by TIME as "The Man Who Remade Motherhood."

Writer Kate Pickert argues that the famous doctor, neglected by his own parents as a child, is now bringing America "to a point where mothering in particular requires more physical and emotional investment than perhaps ever before."

Point is, it all started in SoCal, apparent capital of attachment parenting. And MILFs, of course.

Updated on the next page: Grumet breastfeeds both her toddlers at once.

Breastfeeding is normal & not shameful.    When allowed to children will typically self wean at about 3 or 4 yrs old.  I find it offensive that the article refers to Jamie as a MILF.  I am both sickened & saddened by many of the comments.  There is so much anger & hate directed at Jamie & her son.  It turned my stomach to read some of the comments & mean remarks.  It seems a though many of you are just a bunch of bullies with nothing more constructive to do with your time.  So sad & what does that say for our society.  Why bash on a mother who is caring for her child in a nurturing & loving & kind way?

Hah, one of my friends sent me this because they knew I'd find this article funny. Well Simone, you officially look like a stalker and have created "Jamie Lynne Grumet's" persona, but it isn't me. Maybe instead of following TIME's lead and actually looking for sensationalized images and using words like MILF (I mean really? Adults call people MILFs? Saying that my blog is named after that because I think I'm attractive? Wow, way to put words (lies) in my mouth- yeah, it has nothing to do with the fact that I'm the size and shape of a 12 year old and my family is transracial and I am mistaken for the babysitter on a daily basis, and from what I understand that isn't technically the definition of a "MILF" - you are either incredibly stupid or are trying to exploit a pretty normal topic) , you may want to have some journalistic integrity and actually look into what happened and how we ended up on the cover. And wow, fact check much? My adopted son was breastfed up until 4 and in that photo he is 3 and my youngest is 2.

My favorite interview was from Kellymom that used all four of the mothers who posed for TIME with their kids (including myself) http://kellymom.com/blog-post/time-apmoms-interview/

The wonderful news is that even though the majority of garbage (like this article) has been reported, we have received letters from so many people who said they have the courage now to parent in a way they know is best for their child (whether it be breastfeeding/bottlefeeding) without guilt or shame because they see how divisive the media has been with mothers, and we need to stand in alignment. We posed for the Dr. Sears article in an attempt to help relieve the stigma attached to "extended breastfeed" not to tell people that everyone should be doing this. Unfortunately, we knew the risk involved and the media of course sensationlized it. However, good has come. I received another letter yesterday from a woman who adopted a child internationally and was having a horrible time with transition. The toddler asked to nurse and after reading about our family she decided to try it. She said that the tantrums have stopped and she sees the importance of the bond and security that breastfeeding has given. So while you think it is entertaining to write about topics you know nothing about, and bash a healthy parenting style- you may want to realize you might actually be hurting people who may benefit from parenting in this way (or any other healthy form of parenting that has been stigmatized) and are ashamed to do so because they are bullied into conforming to what we deem "normal" in our culture. How shameful.

Let's be clear, you're the dimwit and clearly illiterate.  My comments are spot on and correct and you're promoting a scientific fraud based upon your ridiculous religious beliefs.    Let me help you:

1. The earth is approximately 4.5 BILLION YEARS OLD. Radiometric dating proves this.

2. "god" and "jesus" are no more relevant than the Greek or Roman Gods and are just as real/true.

3. The whole parting of the red sea, noahs ark, adam/eve, rising from the dead, walking on water, just like "miracles", are all myths. Just an FYI.

4. There is absolutely no legitimate, academically accepted peer reviewed proof that "jesus" ever existed. None whatsoever.

5. Evolution is a scientific fact. Get over it. Our ancestors are over 6 Million years old.

6. How can anyone "hate" a myth? It's like me proclaiming I hate "Batman". Batman is just as real as "jesus".

7. http://godisimaginary.com/

8. The bible was written by men to control/manipulate and profit from man. It's that simple.

9. Roe vs. Wade is the law of land.

I don't care what myths or fables you believe in provided you keep them to yourself and don't inflict them on others. Keep them out of public schools, science/math, public policy, foreign policy, law and jurisprudence. If you want to raise your children to flip burgers, dig ditches and believe in myths, bully for you. We don't care as long as you don't inflict them on others.

Only people who enjoy going to an unaccredited school and who don't have the academic chops to get into a real school go to "schools" like Azusa Pacific, Liberty University or a whole host of other equally rediculous schools teaching "Intelligent Design", "Creationism" and other equally foolish and ignorant classes.  You want to raise your little losers to be ditch diggers and fast food workers, bully for you.  Now get me a coffee.

Lets be VERY clear. Dr. William Sears has been entirely debunked and uses  peer reviewed studies (of which he has nothing to do with and has NEVER done a legitimate scientific study) completely out of context to justify his "beliefs" (they're not legitimate scientific theories since they don't follow accepted scientific protocols and don't have any data or studies). He's a disreputable shill. His son, Dr. Bob Sears, has authored books against immunizations (also UNSUPPORTED by any data, studies or actual science) to make money also. They are bad fpr children. NOTHING they promote is based on actual science. None of they write is peer reviewed or published in accreditted journals such as JAMA, The Lancet, The New England Journal of Medicine or with a major University Medical Center. They are not good for medicine. Dr. Sears and his children have NEVER engaged in an actual scientific, peer reviewed study with test and control groups. Their entire premise is to sell books and promote "opinions" with no substance to support them and no actual data. The AAP, America Academy of Pediatrics, visibly distanced themselves from these circus clowns.  The AAP also states there is no justifiable benefit to breastfeeding after the age of 2.  There is NO science, data, peer reviewed studies or legitimate information from the AAP or other groups to support Dr. Sears.  PS:  "Anecdotal data/evidence" really isn't.  He's a quack. You will find the majority of accredited Pediatric Physicians and Surgeons realize Dr. Sears is a quack.Obviously, Jamie Lynne Grumet, isn't very bright or literate. It's creepy to breastfeed a 4 year old. This is MUCH more about her, and money, than being a good mother. A good mother doesn't breastfeed a 4-year old.  The irony is that so much of this seems to evolve from extremely religious groups.  They're obviously preparing their children for the rigorous theological entrance exams of Azusa pacific and Liberty U.  Lol

Wow, "John" I've seen this exact comment in multiple places. Not only is clearly spam, it isn't accurate information in your supposed credible rant. I hope people do the research and find out that promoting a healthy attachment (Dr. Sears even states there are many ways to do this) with your child is the foundation for a healthy and well-connected child in society. Also, research in orphanages in Romania has wonderful research on attachment in the first few months of life being vital to brain development of the child.

Using words like "creepy" as an argument just show how dim and illiterate you really are.

@propagandaisnotnews  @LoriT Most scientific "facts" are just waiting to be disproved, anyway, but here are a few. 1. women & children benefit greatly in their mood & attachment to each other from the full-term breastfeeding relationship. This is a scientific fact. 2. Breast milk is good for you. Scientific fact. 3. You will never be clever, no matter how frequently you state it. This is a scientific fact; One can only increase one's brain power though whatever means by so much, and you just have too far to go. 4. Many scientific "facts" are forged via empirical research & reasoning. This is not actually much different from a bunch of people sitting down & comparing notes of their own experiences. Dressing them up as "scientific facts" however, gives people a sense of self-importance and pretends that there is something esoteric & mysterious about the world, that only people paid by the correct organisations can understand. That is a scientific fact.

You clearly have some sort of pent up aggression against christians you may want to seek psychological help for. Like you said, no one gets mad if someone believes in batman, because batman clearly does not exist. You are getting mad. Someone clearly dropped the ball parenting you if this is how you spend your evenings. Sears is a quack.http://ideas.time.com/2012/05/..., Jamie Lynne Grumet, isn't very bright or literate. It's creepy to breastfeed a 4 year old. This is MUCH more about her, and money, than being a good mother. A good mother doesn't breastfeed a 4-year old.  The irony is that so much of this seems to evolve from extremely religious groups. It's a safe bet she'll homeschool them in preparation for their entrance into Azusa Pacific or Liberty University, both indicative of their very limited career options. This is MUCH MORE about her needs and wants and her narcissistic personality than what's best for the child.

oh fuck off. let's work on the premise that anybody with a dick isn't qualified to comment on breastfeeding. so if Dr Sears isn't, neither are you. And what is scientific about the word "creepy"? what a thorough & exact definition. And definitely something that describes the person far more than the noun it is describing. Eg a young child might describe an old, run-down house as "creepy". this is because the small child is afraid & lacks the experience to rationalise it sensibly. Ergo you are that small child; you are afraid of  breastfeeding and lack the experience of it, therefore it's "creepy". Telling women their instincts are wrong because they haven't been proven by science is like telling us all we should fight the urge to drink when thirsty, eat when hungry or sleep when tired. Nonsense!

@unwean  Cupcake, I deal in data driven facts which are collected by QUALIFIED professionals and which undergo rigorous peer review and by legitimate academia and scientists.  Plase, shut your ignorant piehole and stick to cleaning hotel rooms.  Obviously, it's all you're qualified for in raising the future ditch diggers and burger flippers of America.  Lol

I love that you feel so inclined to engage in the creep activity of breastfeeding 6 year olds.  How quaint.  It's a certainty your husband is either:  A weak doormat,  crazy/nuts just like you or, he fled like his hair was on fire when he realized he procreated with a certiable, tinfoil hat wearing crazy (you).  Lol

@unwean Honey, cupcake, moron..........you being fat and a cunt, in addition to having one only qualifies you as life support system for one, nothing more.  Lol

Obviously, no one told you that being able to breed only makes you capable of shooting out more little losers, not commenting intelligently with actual peer reviewed data from qualifed, legitimate scientific sources about real scientific studes.  Facepalm.

Honey, you really need to get out more often.

@unwean "unwean" you're being fat and a cunt, having a cunt and breastfeeding your little losers until adolescence only demonstrates how truly stupid you are.  Please regale us with your "degree" and your educational background.  I will wait with rapt attention.

Just an FYI:  Your "anecdotal" experience and "data" is not science, you ignorant slob.  Come back when you have a degree and some actual experience in hard sciences.  Lol

@propagandaisnotnews hm, don't know how that last sentence came out like that waay. to be clear I'll reiterate. Show me your cunt & I'LL TELL YOU how "qualified" & "professional" you are to be discussing this.

@propagandaisnotnews  Hilarious that you assume I'm even in America! anyone anywhere in the World can obtain a zip code to pretend to be in America to say angry things to pathetic morons. I have no desire to ever live in America, or even visit. But that's another story. Your absolute trust  in "data" supplied by "qualified professionals" makes you very vulnerable to brainwashing. But you have already demonstrated that tendency by buying the formula maker's bullshit. I'll raise the bar a little. Show me your cunt & I'll let you tell me how "qualified" and "professional" you are to be discussing this topic.

The adopted kid sucking her left tit is actually 35 years old. He just has that Webster disease.

Im surprised she never wondered why he always adds Kahlua to the breastmilk before he drinks it.....

Yikes these people are silly. This isn't some new wave. In the nineties I was breastfed until the age of 3/4 and so were all three of my siblings (in the seventies and eighties). Also my mother had me at 38. Yes, maybe this woman is seeking attention, and that part is wrong, but breastfeeding is perfectly normal for the first few years of human life. Fun fact: breastfeeding benefits both mother and child (radically decreases the risk of several types of cancer and osteoporosis in the mother). Why whine about it?

Nobody cares what people do in their own lives.  Put a pic of yourself in a tight little outfit with your boob stuck in a kid that looks like Larry the Cable Guy...golly, some might comment on the attention whore-ness.

"the age of 3/4"?  3/4 of a year?  9 months?

Between 3 and 4. At which point I decided autonomously (really!) that I no longer wanted to breastfeed.

Just keep the blanky over Johnny's head while you are lunching at Cracker Barrel.  Nobody will mind if you try to be a bit discreet.

Rielle?  The real question is if you are still breast feeding Silky Pony?
