Scene of the crash.
Between Friday evening and 6 a.m. yesterday, CHP officers had already arrested over 250 suspected drunk drivers throughout L.A. County.

But despite ramped-up DUI patrols by various traffic-enforcement agencies for Memorial Day Weekend, alleged drunk driver Jason Steward, 32, still did his damage just after 7 a.m. on Monday morning. According to the CHP, he killed young mother Lynze Martinez and her two children when he smashed his Cadillac into their family van -- then tried to flee the scene on foot.

At the time it was hit, City News Service reports that the Tahoe van, driven by 28-year-old Oscar Angues (who injured his head in the crash, but was not killed), was turning left onto Mona Boulevard from 119th Street in an industrial part of unincorporated Willowbrook.

Steward, meanwhile, is believed to have been speeding south on Mona. He smashed into the van as it tried to turn onto the main roadway, flipping it onto its right side.

Of three children riding in the Tahoe, all reportedly belonging to Lynze Martinez, two were killed on impact. They have since been unidentified as 7-year-old Brianna and 3-year-old Loryana. (Her 1-year-old son came out alive.)

Worst of all is the way the driver reacted to the tragic accident, via City News:

Steward, who broke his left ankle in the crash, tried to flee the scene on foot but was arrested by CHP officers near the crash site. He was transported to Harbor UCLA Medical Center for treatment and booked on charges of suspicion of driving under the influence, felony hit and run and possible gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, according to the CHP.

My wife actually works with the man who lost his loved ones in this tragedy. We too will be thinking about them. Drunk Driving is pure SELFISHNESS. I'm ashamed to have friends that I see every day have a few and get in the car to drive not knowing that their actions will affect everyone around them.
