Historic Plastic Bag Ban Vote Tomorrow Will Bring Heal the Bay to L.A. City Hall
The L.A. City Council this week could make ours the biggest city in America to not only ban plastic bags at markets, but also prohibit paper bags.

The body finally takes up the historic proposal on Wednesday.
And environmentalists and supporters of Heal the Bay will be there:
Heal the Bay is organizing a rally outside City Hall at 9 a.m. Wednesday before the council takes up the issue sometime after 10.
The group wants to keep the plastic out of the ocean:
California municipalities spend $25 million each year just to collect and dispose of plastic bag waste. Fewer than 5% of plastic grocery bags are recycled statewide, so the remainder clogs precious landfill, litters public spaces and harms animal life.
The council could vote to approve Councilman Paul Koretz's proposal, which would ban only plastic bags for three months, then charge 10 cents for paper bags for another six months -- before banning both and requiring you to bring your reusable totes to Trader Joe's, Ralphs and Whole Foods.
