Updated at the bottom with more information about the plane, which was being used by the military. Headline has been changed. First posted at 12:49 p.m.

A private jet crashed near Camarillo Airport this afternoon, according to authorities and reports.

A Ventura County sheriff's captain told the Weekly it happened about 12:15 p.m. near Hueneme and Las Posas roads. He couldn't confirm that it was a private jet, as some Twitter users were saying.

No word on injuries.

Twitter user and NBC/Telemundo cameraman Juan Guerra blasted this this afternoon:

AIRPLANE DOWN...Camarillo...Laguna Rd & Hueneme Rd...Jet crashed at agricultural field...Unk. injuries...FD just arriving

The crash site is also near the Point Mugu Naval Complex and Cal State Channel Islands.

[Added at 1:03 p.m.]: KEYT is calling the plane a Hawker Hunter, which is a vintage military jet from the U.K.

Guerra (above) is calling it a "Possible a Cougar 21 Jet...trainer plane..."

[Update at 3:16 p.m.]: It appears it was a Hawker Hunter. KNX 1070 Newsradio reports that the private military jet was being used by an ex-military pilot as a training vehicle in the skies above Point Mugu. The plane was being rented by the U.S. Navy, apparently. The station says it had taken off from Naval Base Ventura County before crashing nearby with only the pilot on-board.
