Venice Zipline: You Could Be Screaming Over the Beach This Summer

Venice is one step closer to getting a temporary zipline for summer. Area L.A. City Councilman Bill Rosendahl announced that the council unanimously approved a motion to draft a proposal for the California Coast Commission's OK.

Why does Venice need a zipline? Aren't bikinis, waves and a skate park enough to attract the masses?

Rosendahl said on his Facebook page that, in these times of tight city budgets, the gravity propelled attraction could "help generate revenue for increased restroom cleaning and trash removal along the boardwalk." And ...

... it would be fun.

The zipline concept seems to have replaced an earlier idea to install a massive "observation wheel" on the boardwalk that would have dwarfed your average Ferris wheel.

Rosendahl has said a zipline on the coast would be easier to install.

He wants this thing built this summer, which, technically, begins June 20: The proposal would head to the Coastal Commission for its July 11-13 meeting in Chula Vista.

After that, some quick construction, and three-months of zipline ecstasy, according to Rosendahl's plan.

Venice, once dubbed The Coney Island of the Pacific, has historically been a place for freak shows and tourist attractions. It still has Muscle Beach, the drum circle and cheap sunglasses.

The question is, hasn't Venice outgrown cheap thrills? You don't see Manhattan Beach trying to install observation wheels and ziplines, that's for sure.

Hey, Dennis.  Isn't Rosendahl running for reelection to the City Council (for another 4 yr term)? If so, you should mention it ! How appropriate for a Councilman has done almost zip for his residents to be pushing a zipline !!! Rosendahl is also a longtime member of the City's Budget Committee and head of the City's Transportation Committee (and gets to vote on all decisions)...the City's Budget is tight because of his incompetence and taking care of Special Interests. You might also note that this is the same guy who has championed taking away what little rights the public has to speak at City Council meetings so he can spend that time grandstanding, giving political speeches, patting himself on the back, handing out Certificates created by the City's Calligraphers, etc !
