Alexis Brooks: Pedestrian Killed on Western in South L.A. Area as Suspect Shoots at Car

A driver who fatally struck a 28-year-old woman in the south L.A. County community of Westmont was shot at, causing her to flee, officials said.

The bizarre incident happened at South Western Avenue and West 108th Street about 9:15 p.m. Saturday, sheriff's officials told City News Service.

... Alexis Brooks, who deputies say was crossing Western south of 108th. She was pushed into another car, a northbound Chevrolet that also hit her, officials said.

The 2005 Mazda that first hit Brooks was heading south at 35 miles per hour, cops said: It kept going after shots rang out.

Inside was a scared, 37-year-old named Keetha Knox, who went home and called 911, according to CNS.

Lt. Milton Murphy indicated that she's not in trouble:

She is not under arrest, and this is not considered a hit-and-run at this point.

Only in L.A? The attack was unusual enough that the CHP was helping the sheriff's department in its efforts to track down the gunman. City News indicated that the suspect knew the victim.
