Prop. 8 Sent to U.S. Supreme Court by 'Protect Marriage' Camp

They're like potato bugs who refuse to die.

After four yeas of rejection, ProtectMarriage.com and four other individuals in the pro-Prop. 8 camp have taken California's gay-marriage fight to the highest court in the land:

They submitted a nearly 500-page petition to the U.S. Supreme Court this morning, asking justices...

... "whether the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment prohibits the State of California from defining marriage as the union of a man and a woman."

Word is that the court could decide whether to hear their case as early as October.

This will be the final chance for an upset. In a 2-1 decision, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit found voters' 2008 ban on same-sex unions unconstitutional last month -- one in a long line of court decisions that have favored the American Foundation for Equal Rights.

But like we said, the God freaks refuse to stop crawling back, determined to triumph over the happiness of gay couples in this otherwise-liberal state.

It's been a bizarre ride -- including a months-long debate over whether a website (ProtectMarriage.com) could serve as defense in court, and a made-for-YouTube Prop. 8 play starring Brad Pitt and George Clooney.

Then today we get this, a psychopathically detailed "writ of certiorari" explaining away the principles of equality that this country was founded upon. Enjoy!
