Arely Amaya, Teen Mom, Arrested After Babies Found in 110-Degree Car in Cudahy
The children were "hot and moist to the touch" and were taken to a hospital by paramedics, according to a sheriff's statement: Cops' estimated they had been inside the Honda Civic, as the mother allegedly left them to go shopping, for at least for 20 minutes:
City News Service reported that the two were taken to Saint Francis Medical Center in Lynwood and appeared to be okay.
The suspect was ID'd by sheriff's officials as 18-year-old Arely Amaya. According to the department, she "did not seem upset when she came back to her car."
Deputies were summoned to the parking lot in the 7900 block of Atlantic Avenue in Cudahy about 12:30 Saturday afternoon after a witness spotted the babies alone in the back of the car, according to the sheriff's statement.
Deputy Pedro Mejia rushed to the scene in his cruiser, lights and siren on, and got there within 2 minutes, officials said.
He said the two were seated in their child seats and locked in the car:
The window was partially cracked. I stuck my arm in, unlocked the car, and pulled the children out.
Cops said it was 92 degrees outside and 110 inside the car.
Amaya was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment. She was held in lieu of $105,000 bail.
