Another day, another blazer.

The California Independent System Operator (Cal-ISO) took the unusual step of declaring a Flex Alert for statewide energy users tomorrow, even though today was expected to be the hotter day.

Maybe we'll nearly be out of juice by then. According to the grid controller:

The week-long heat wave in California is picking up steam again and the mercury on the rise. A Flex Alert is in effect tomorrow and consumers are urged to reduce their energy use.

During Flex Alerts you are urged to keep your air-con at 78 degrees and cut down on major appliance use. The idea is that, if we conserve, we can stave off rolling blackouts that could be triggered if our electricity system is overloaded with demand.

An extra concern:

The San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station is down and won't likely be back up until next year. We have no backup.

In the meantime the National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning for today.

It covers mountain and valley areas, including Pasadena, San Gabriel and Pomona. The valleys are expected to reach about 105 degrees today.

Yeah, this heat wave is hanging around like a bad economy.
