Michelle Jordan.
We changed the headline after finding out more, with additional details, including video and the woman's ID, at the bottom. First posted at 7:34 p.m.

Police tonight said they're investigating a videotaped beat-down "use of force" by two LAPD cops in its San Fernando Valley Foothill Divison.

The officers were placed on desk duty while Internal Affairs investigates, the department said in a statement.

It all happened ...

... Aug. 21 during a traffic stop at Foothill Boulevard and Saluda Avenue in Crescenta Heights, near Tujunga, an LAPD official told the Weekly.

The statement came after NBC Los Angeles teased that it had a copy of just such a video:

The evidence was serious enough that Chief Charlie Beck was prompted to weigh in:

My initial review of the officers' statements and the recorded video cause me to have serious concerns about this Use of Force. We will investigate this thoroughly and hold our officers accountable for their actions.

The department said an investigating supervisor canvassed the area and found the video.

[Update at 9 p.m.]: We were told the video depicts a woman "being taken down" by the officers.

The woman was ID'd tonight as 34-year-old Michelle Jordan of Sunland. According to an LAPD statement, it happened at 11:15 a.m.:

During the stop Jordan got out of her car and during a confrontation with the officers was taken to the ground and handcuffed. A short time later, while still handcuffed, another encounter occurred between Jordan and the officers and she was taken to the ground a second time. She was arrested and booked for Penal Code Section 148, Interfering/Resisting Arrest, and later released on her own recognizance.

She filed a complaint, helping to prompt the inquiry.

The cops were described as white men, one with 22 years on the job and the other a probationary officer with 10 months working the streets. (Jordan also appears to be white.)

[Added at 10:38 p.m.]: Jordan's lawyer told NBC4 that she was argumentative and did utter expletives at the officers. But he noted that she was in cuffs and appeared to be under the officers' control.

The station described Jordan's situation as "getting your head slammed into the pavement." The video, apparently security footage from a nearby business, depicts the officers sharing a fist bump after the woman is slammed to the ground.

NBC4:

Jordan and her attorney say the move caused her serious injuries to the head and upper body, which they have documented with photos.

She's a registered nurse who was pulled over (she stopped at a nearby fast food restaurant, and a map of the area shows Del Taco being the sole such business at the intersection) for using a cellphone without a hands-free device, NBC4 reported.

[Added at 11:10 p.m.]: ABC Eyewitness News says Jordan plans to file a civil suit (or, more likely, a claim) against the department.

Leave the LAPD ALONE!!!!!  They do their jobs and risk their lives doing it.  Also, they are just as good as DIA/CIA, maybe better, and mixed with the movie fight club, come to find out.  They have inner resources through clandestine, "unofficial" intelligence's (which lead to official that is) which is far superior than any other department we know of.  Far more than you would even think, and they have eyes/ears everywhere.  Think of the gal at the supermarket cash register, you mess with her.......well you gonna mess with her buddies with the LAPD and she is going to turn that information such as CC numbers or CADL over to the force for unofficial investigations or surveillance which in turn (volunteer that is, not on the cities dime don't worry) into official once the intelligence is classified of importance.  I won't comment on the intelligence's which led to the parking lot, but it had something to do with the Del Taco.  Those who do things wrong or lie, you will be dealt with one day, and you may be watched right now as we speak.  Furthermore, the motive is that this story is just media hype to ruin the departments name and image.  The video may not lie, but remember my fellow American's, a picture is worth a thousand words, and video is multiplied by a factor of more than 100 million words.  The picture I'm talking about is the time it took for the women to get out of her car and what we don't know was said in the video to the officers.

This didn't happen to me, so why should I care?

it was your choice Chief Beck, to run your department by following the example of the Los Angeles City Council in conducting themselves as privileged in perpetuity members of an elite Country Club.

Do you believe that placing Captain Hiltner on full time at the driving range is sufficient reform?

Will airing the soiled laundry left over from one training day in Foothill chase the genie back into the bottle for air?

Chief Beck - don't you realize that you outed yourself as the benign caretaker of a sandbox full of snotty sniveling brats almost 2 years ago?

the Chief in authority of a professional police department would have charged in - taking names and yanking stripes of anyone responsible for Day 2 of the Stenroos hoax.

Instead, you put the blinders on. Your actions and inactions placed an essential seal of approval from HQ onto the selfish, self-serving fiasco of Stenroos Day 2.

Stenroos Day 2 merited a public ceremony announcing reassignment downward to chalking tires for Commander Albanese.

When you allowed the Valley Division produced clown show of Stenroos Day 2 to pass into the books with your imprimatur, that was when you forfeited the balance of credibility remaining in your personal account as Chief of LAPD.

I really want you to succeed in leading the LAPD.  I desperately need you to succeed.

I'm afraid that routine and oganizational memory is about all that holds the department together at this point in time. Every little storm threatens to blow another division into a state of chaos or mutiny.

Your cause as Chief is almost hopelessly irretrievable at this point. That is my depressing, yet honest and blunt assessment, Chief Beck.

Only quick and radical decisionmaking can personally restore you to the respect and authority associated with your title.  Your employees and the City of Los Angeles desperately need a demonstration to affirm that you lead a professional big-city police department, and not some cushy air-conditioned country club.

You could do it tomorrow morning, Chief Beck. But you won't. Because you want to remain popular with the boys in the frat house. The captains and commanders know they can get you to back down with their chorus of frowns and bellyaching.

You might take a few minutes to reread the job description for an effective Chief of LAPD.

No friends. No old friends. No new friends.

Only individuals whose loyalty is proven and trusted. And individuals whose loyalty remains in doubt.

its not supposed to be a country club. if your organization wants to operate as a country club - then let the members start paying the outrageous dues on their own.

Do you call yourselves an organization of law enforcement professionals?

Then prove it!

Reassign every station captain right now! Rotate the entire command staff and the entire patrol staff, right now.

Break up every comfy partnership and every calcified, cozy roll call.

If you are a professional department composed of properly trained professionals than you can implement top to bottom reassignment at no extra cost and nary a whimper of complaint or a step missed.

That may be your last chance to put the "Chi" back in Chief. and possibly reinvigorate the organization with the self-respect it will take to weather the unseen storms which lie ahead.

She is clearly guilty of failing to exhibit the abject, sniveling, pants-wetting subservience which is the proper disposition for any citizen in a police state.  How DARE she?!

We don't absolutely need them -- especially as a permanently chartered and more-and-more omnipresent community entity.

Here's an enlightening bit from Wikipedia on the history of the police state:

"The term 'police state' was first used in 1851, in reference to the use of a national police force to maintain order, in Austria. In fact, even on a local level, the use of a police force to actively maintain order, outside of emergencies, was nearly unknown before this time."

There is only one way to stop this nonsense,  start paying the law suits that arise from these brutal LAPD beatings out of the police budget.  LAPD can make up the shortfall by cutting every single officers pay, especially the commanders, then watch how fast the LAPD starts to 'police' their own to keep them in line.

Our community and civil servants are supposed to be those whom we look up to, role models for our young people and here to protect our basic rights.  This is a disgrace to the city, community and all Police departments.  It creates distrust for all future incidents between a truly dangerous offender and police officers.

An officer in control does not have to abuse physically for a person with a stupid mouth, we make them accountable by placing consequences on their behavior.  These officers behaved like the bottom of the food chain, uneducated with a little power and using it inappropriately, "trailer trash" Don't we educate them better than this?  There are so many other reasons her behavior could of been erratic, which is why we count on them to be in control.  What shame and disgrace to our P.D.s all over.

The bitch totally had it coming. I only wish they would have tied her to the hood of the police car and drove around Foothill Blvd as a warning to anyone else thinking of yakking on their cell phone.

FBI special agent who admits he repeatedly hit his son's girlfriend with a hammer two years ago in a Las Vegas home is expected to tell his side of the story Friday at his murder trial in Clark County District Court.

Edward Preciado-Nuno, 63, is expected to testify that the bloody slaying was in self defense after Kimberly Long, 31, began striking him with a hammer and knocking him to the floor of the garage.
