MTA officials held a press event this morning at USC to encourage Trojan fans to take the new Expo light-rail line to Saturday's home opener at the L.A. Coliseum.

The event went off without a hitch, until the MTA folks tried to use the Expo Line to get back to their offices downtown.

That's when the train broke down.

Seems there was a problem with an overhead catenary wire, which caused a service interruption at about 9:40 a.m. The MTA officials were waylaid at the 23rd Street station. Passengers were held up for 25 minutes or so, and the line was reduced to a single track while the wire was repaired.

Everything was back to normal by 11:30 a.m.

MTA officials say not to worry about taking the train to Saturday's game. They'll add extra trains to the system both before and after the game, and they'll have extra staff on hand to make sure things go smoothly.

The top-ranked Trojans will be hosting Hawaii, and the game is sold out.
