CicLAvia, the bike ride that closes down miles of L.A. streets for your pedaling pleasure, announced an all-new route for its Oct. 7 shindig.

And it's somewhat of a hipster happening, taking you to Chinatown, the new Grand Park, "downtown's bustling cafés and pubs," and Little Tokyo, according to a statement from organizers.

It all happens ...

... from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7.

CicLAvia officials note that this is one weekend after Carmageddon II, when motorists are urged to stay away from Westside freeways to make way for the weekend closure of the 405 through West L.A. and the Sepulveda Pass:

Organizers anticipate that more than 100,000 Angelenos will happily leave their cars behind again in order to participate in CicLAvia.

The 9-mile journey will also hit Mariachi Plaza in Boyle Heights and MacArthur park in the Westlake District. Organizers:

The new route offers an unparalleled opportunity to survey Los Angeles' cultural and culinary riches ...

CicLAvia started in 2010 with Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's blessing. It's modeled after Bogota, Columbia's original Ciclovía bike ride.

Samuel Douek: Just bike up to the Metro Orange Line Sepulveda or Van Nuys stations and ride that to North Hollywood, then take the Red Line to MacArthur Park and CicLAvia the rest of your way. Leave your car at home and save on gas with a $5 Metro Day Pass.

Yup and very proud that this will include a portion of the neighborhood I grew up in North University Park. I am even creating a meet up ride where I shall take friends on a guided side tour highlighting my favorite architectural points, a play at the 24th Street Theater and wine/beer tasting at Bacaro!

F Yeah! However I'll have to drive to a point where I can use it... Sherman Oaks can't get me there on a bike.
