K-Town Reality Show Renewed For Second Season of Shenanigans

K-Town, the controversial reality show that proves Asians can be guidos too, has been renewed for a second season, a rep told the Weekly.

The series didn't make it to cable, as originally intended, but its renewal appears to be a vote of confidence in its appeal and in YouTube as a television delivery system with its own gravity.

The show was launched by Tyrese Gibson and reality titan Ben Silverman, among others:

It has your typical girl fights, bro-downs and drunken escapades, and has a production sheen that would have made it comfortable among MTV's offerings.

But K-Town is cut into 12 minute episodes to fit its laptop viewership.

Some in the Korean American community aren't too happy that the series is airing the dirty laundry of its young and spoiled. Too bad.

We're told the second season will roll out in mid-November.

Foremost, I must say I am a fan of the reality show K-Town. I am Korean-American myself, so I feel l like I can relate more than to other nationalities. The friendships within the group are entertaining and heart-warming to watch. That said, I'm looking forward to seeing more episodes and glad the show has picked up a second season. I know the show has an interest in mending the typical Asian stereotype, but is being thought of as smart and successful so bad? Yes, Asians may have a higher IQ and have become a minority group that has succeeded in US society. I'm proud of that. I can see any other show that has the same people getting wasted night and night. I don't want this to be the new image that people think when they think of Asian-Americans. Getting intoxicated night after night has nothing to do with what ethnic background you're from. I enjoy watching K-Town and like the characters in it but I don't want to watch episode after episode where they're just bar-hopping, getting into arguments with each other as well as strangers and getting wasted. It gets rather redundant and is a negative thing to portray about a group of people that happen to be Asian-American. So, although I'm a fan, I can't say whether I'm as proud of the show's depiction of Asian-Americans.

@youngabiusa I don't understand what it is that you have to cringe about... I didn't know that partying and spending your earned money made you a "worst" person. Please enlighten me with your prototype "respectful" lifestyle. You certainly like to generalize about people's characters based on vicarious experience, taking a scene out of its proportion. K-town is first and foremost an entertainment, not an anthropological examination on a specific demographic..

I'm a K-town boy and have been and I don't know what these people are. I cringe when I see this. This scripted "reality" show is how white Hollywood sees Asian American youth. It's amazing how TV bring out the worst in people or just the worst people.

@hwarang Welcome to America, brother. This is a land of capitalism and opportunity. As long as entertainers do not endanger or inflict harm on others, they are entitled to pursue whatever they want within legal parameters. What these entertainers perform and do in their private lives are none of your business. In contrast, it's more like uptight, backward thinking and closed-minded people like you that constantly reinforce the common Asian stereotypes.
