Folks who want to overturn the city of Los Angeles' ban on medical marijuana dispensaries scored a victory today as the City Clerk's office announced they officially have the signatures to take this thing to the ballot box.

The office said this afternoon that, after sampling 5 percent of the 49,021 signatures turned in it found that 110 percent of the number needed (27,425) were valid, triggering its verification.

It also stated:

The City Clerk today has presented a Certification of Sufficiency to the City Council.

Clerk's officials say they expect the City Council to take up the matter by Oct. 7. Its options, according to the Clerk's office:

1. Repeal the ordinance; or

2. Call a special election to be held not earlier than 110 days or later than 140 days after Council action on the petition; or

3. Add the ordinance to the next regular City election to be held more than 110 days from certification of the petition, which in this case would be the City's March 5, 2013 Primary Nominating Election.

In the meantime the ban remains frozen -- your local shop is probably still open -- while this thing is worked out.

City Attorney's spokesman Frank Mateljan told the Weekly today:

... The ban is on hold until the Council or voters take up the issue.

We'll be watching.

Just like Pharma paid him to write a medical marijuana bill with a prohibition on actually growing the plant. CT’s legsilature had approved bills with patient growing several times over the last 10 years, but somehow those bills never passed.

But this year, the bill was actually written by the governor’s office! Now, that’s a bill that can be signed! Medical marijuana is “legal”, and the bill is “well-crafted” so that only a few thousand people out of 5 million will be protected.

No worries, there will still be thousands of sick people in CT growing medicine, plenty of fodder for the SWAT teams!

They can not stop getting Medical marijuana dispensary (http://bigbudsmag.com/news/article/medicine-marijuana-dispensing-systems-obtain-licenses-arizona-august-2012 ) Licenses

Unbelievable stupidity of the L.A City council! The state of California is near economic collapse, so it wastes time and money going after legal medical marijuana dispensaries! It's so stupid to fight marijuana; it is effective, safe, and has over a thousand years of use. Marijuana is a very healthy food if taken as an edible, not smoked. There is a great $2.99 e-book on medical marijuana: MARIJUANA - Guide to Buying, Growing, Harvesting, and Making Medical Marijuana Oil and Delicious Candies to Treat Pain and Ailments by Mary Bendis, Second Edition. This book has great recipes for easy marijuana oil, delicious Cannabis Chocolates, and tasty Dragon Teeth Mints.

I have never smoked pot in my life...nor do I ever care to. I read about this book in numerous Huffington Post comments. Thought I would read it because I know nothing about marijuana or the people involved with it. I am ecstatic that I did. Funny, Funny, Funny!!! The chapters are like short stories. Stories about unloading boats with helicopters, close encounters with law enforcement, traveling through the jungles of South America. The chapter about the author's first time smoking marijuana made me feel like I was with him...coughing. All of the characters were just a group of loveable, nice guys and girls. Not what I had been raised to believe...hysterical maniacs high on pot bent on death and mayhem. They were nothing like that. If you have ever read any of David Sedaris' books, and like them...you will love Shoulda Robbed a Bank. And the crazy things happening reminded me of Holden Caufield in 'Catcher in the Rye' and the way he staggered through life. The way the words are put together are like nothing I have ever heard. I am sure I will use many of the sayings found in this book just to dazzle my friends. A terrific read. I love this book.
