Cops this week were looking for the thieves who cleaned out a Santa Monica home left alone earlier this month by a resident on a "trip." The $10 million-plus haul included "numerous" art works, including a piece by Jasper Johns, a 2010 Porsche and a handful of watches, including a Patek Philippe. All this has us saying ...

... Wow, was this victim loaded.

The Los Angeles Times (via LA Biz Observed) ID'd the poor (and by that we mean temporarily unfortunate) guy as Jeffrey Gundlach, a CEO, investor and onetime bond trader.

According to a Santa Monica police statement, other watches that vanished included a Lange & Söhne and a Breitling. Other artists included Philip Guston, Franz Kline and Piet Mondrian. The Porsche is a 2010 Carrera 4S. There was also cash missing, police said.

Nice stuff, that. Even the currency.

If you ever fantasized about a high-paying career in burglary -- you know, without all the stints in prison and without the inevitable drug addiction -- this would be your ultimate dream job, no?

Cops say the theft was reported exactly one week ago when the victim came home and discovered the residence in the 500 block of 12th Street, in Santa Monica's tony North-of-Montana Avenue district, had been burgled hardcore.

Detectives believe the burglary happened between 3 p.m. Sept. 12 and 8 p.m. Sept. 14. The Santa Monica Police Department stated:

Numerous high-end paintings and two wooden box art pieces had been stolen from various rooms throughout the home.

So if you see a guy with fine taste in art and a $10,000-plus watch strapped to his wrist driving around the Westside in a Porsche 4S, maybe call the SMPD at 310-458-8495. (Or not. There are a surprising number of people in L.A. who fit that description).
