For more details about the Trousdale Estates murder in Beverly Hills, read the L.A. Weekly story "Did Scott Barker Knife Rich Kid Tony Takazato to Save His Girlfriend from Prostitution?"

On Thursday at the Beverly Hills Courthouse, L.A. County prosecutors Amy Carter and Linda Loftfield continued their long slog in carefully presenting evidence at the first-degree murder trial of 25-year-old Scott Barker, whom friends described to one journalist as a charmer.

From police videos to graphic photographs to a bent kitchen knife, this time they offered up a criminalist's analyses of bloody shoe prints and a piece of torn fabric Beverly Hills police had found in the lifeless hand of murder victim Tony Takazato, who may have been some kind of pimp.

During his cross-examination, Bradley Brunon, Barker's wily and high-priced attorney who has worked for such infamous men as nightclub owner Eddie Nash and music producer Phil Spector, brought up questions he'll undoubtedly pursue further when he undertakes his own presentation of the "facts."

The murder trial involves a bizarre love triangle that went bone-chillingly sideways -- and one that the L.A. media has taken little interest in... although it may speak more to L.A.'s dark side of broken dreams and incomprehensible behavior than another Lindsay Lohan bust.

According to the prosecution, Barker, who was 23 years old at the time and not paying his rent as he tried to land work in the entertainment industry, was enraged that Takazato had pushed his girlfriend, then 20-year-old former rhythmic gymnast Chie Alexandra Coggins-Johnson, into prostitution and pornography. Takazato was also abusive towards Coggins-Johnson, the prosecution said.

Coggins-Johnson and Takazato were once romantically linked, but that turned into a "friendship," the prosecutors said. Friends don't usually ask other friends to help pay off their gambling debts by going into the sordid worlds of porn and prostitution, but that's exactly what Takazato asked Coggins-Johnson to do, according to the prosecution. And she continued to live on and off with her buddy in Beverly Hills.

In the early morning of July 20, 2010, all that ended.

According to the prosecution, Barker went to Takazato's Trousdale Estates home in Beverly Hills and stabbed him to death 58 times, leaving Takazato in a pool of blood and with wounds to the face, the arms, the neck, and the back of the head. The fatal wound was a knife thrust to the heart.

Bradley Brunon said in his opening statement that Coggins-Johnson, who worked closely with the prosecution, is a "pathological liar" and Barker did not commit the murder.

On Thursday, prosecutor Carter spent a good chunk of the afternoon going over one detail after another with senior criminalist Christine Pinto of the Los Angles County Sheriff's Department's crime lab.

Pinto was prepared, and appeared to have a deep passion for her line of work. Unlike other witnesses, she seemed to enjoy her time on the witness stand, clearly explaining with an upbeat demeanor all the ins and outs of her findings.

She even brought posters for the 12-member jury that showed her analysis of a pair of Nike sneakers and a mannequin wearing black clothes, the sneakers, a gray scarf, and a black knit cap -- all items, the prosecution says, that Barker wore when he allegedly murdered Takazato.

Pinto said that the bloody shoe prints found at the scene matched the size 10.5 silver Nike sneakers that were found in a Malibu ravine, where the prosecution contends Barker tried to hide them and other condemning evidence.

Pinto also said that a piece of torn black fabric that a deceased and bloodied Takazato clutched in his right hand -- key evidence for the prosecution -- matched a torn section of a black Wicked Quick long-sleeve shirt that police had also found in Malibu. An L.A. County Sheriff's Department search and rescue team found two knives as well, one of which was deemed the murder weapon.

The torn fabric and black shirt "corresponded in every way that I examined it," Pinto told prosecutor Carter.

The question of whether or not Barker wears size 10.5 sneakers, or ever owned silver Nike running shoes, was not answered or asked by the prosecution or the defense so far. Unlike the O.J. Simpson murder trial, where the disgraced football star struggled to pull on a pair of leather gloves in front of a jury, it's highly doubtful that Carter and Loftfield will ask Barker to try on the sneakers in the courtroom of Judge Elden S. Fox.

During his cross examination, Brunon asked Pinto if she saw any blood on the soles of the sneakers. After a little back and forth, she ultimately said she did not, although she pointed out that she saw red stains on the top part of the Nikes.

Brunon also got Pinto to agree that there are hundreds of thousands Nike sneakers like the ones found in Malibu, and that she couldn't say definitively that those sneakers and the shoe prints found at the murder scene were an exact match with no other possibilities.

More interesting, however, was that Brunon made a point that both arms of the Wicked Quick shirt were torn up.

"That shirt looks like it's been involved in a ferocious struggle, correct?" Brunon asked Pinto.

She agreed.

Brunon will undoubtedly make the argument later in the trial that pictures taken of Barker with his shirt off at the Beverly Hills Police Department show no major scratch marks on his arms.

The trial of L.A.'s true noir side will continue on Friday and into next week.

This trial has absolutely nothing to do with porn or prostitution. The author is adding irrelevant "facts" to this trial for reasons I can't imagine. I also can't help but notice an absolute bias on this trial by LAweekly.

Jesus Christ. An outstanding human is murdered in his own driveway by two psychotic and privileged kids and all you can discuss is your concern with this author's personal stance on porn and prostitution? Judging by his writing style, he only included those "facts" to gain more publicity and readers. He should stick to writing crime novels let less biased writers cover these tragedies. Sordid is the word I would use to describe people who read articles pertaining to something heart-wrenching and serious, but only pay attention to the microscopic details that they feel clever enough to address. Take your moral forum elsewhere and let the rest of us mourn.

Exactly why is the world of porn and prostitution 'sordid'? Both provide pleasure to adults; pleasure is good for one's health and it reduces stress and prolongs life-  according to recent medical studies. The only possible reason for any 'sordidness' would be because prostitution is against the law- to protect us poor, illiterate hos from big bad  evil men who want to exploit us... As everyone knows we women are not capable of exploiting our own assets, so by deduction, we must be forced into the sordid world of ... sex for pay!

It wasn't that long ago that such pejorative terminology was applied to 'homosexual lifestyles' by those seeking to minimize the rights of gays and lesbians by painting their world as 'sordid' and 'sleazy.'  Who would possibly support the rights of people involved in 'tawdry' same sex- sexual encounters where the recruitment of future gays was achieved by 'sexually molesting underage boys (or girls)'?  (which is what many religious conservatives still believe is how homosexuals are created) And yet now society is arguing the merits of allowing gays and lesbians to marry one another. Who would have thought!

@normajeanalmodovar Thanks for reading NJA. With all due respect, and I do respect you as a human being, I have to completely disagree. This murder trial is just one example of how taking part in porn and prostitution ends up very badly, and there's at least one group that I know of in which a former porn star is trying to save women from going into porn. There are multitudes of other ways to give yourself and other people pleasure and reduce stress than selling your body for sex.

Also, to connect prostitution and porn with the gay rights movement is a huge stretch, if only for the reason that any gay man or woman will tell you homosexuality was not a choice but something we were born with. You have a choice to be a porn star or prostitute.

Take care,

@patrick.range.mcdonald So would you call the world of marriage 'sordid' given the vast number of victims of domestic violence and spousal abuse, where marriage 'doesn't turn out so well'? And since marriage is so violent, why would gays want to enter into such a sordid relationship with each other?  But then, it isn't that way for the majority of married persons, and neither is sex work- porn OR prostitution!

@patrick.range.mcdonald  How is it a stretch? It is still a matter of whether or not we as adults own our own bodies and if we can make sexual choices which others may find offensive. With all due respect, you haven't a clue what you are talking about. The majority of sex workers consent, we like our work- and the fact that we can give pleasure to people who would otherwise not have access to adult companionship.

You do know that there are many such individuals out there, don't you? Men (and women) who are widowed, divorced, disabled, socially inept and who cannot find someone with whom to have an intimate relationship. Sex workers provide that for so many lonely people. And when I was working, it was the best job I ever had. I once worked for the LAPD- ten years as a matter of fact. And being able to bring pleasure to human beings who were not fortunate enough to share intimacy with anyone, was a far better job than making people's lives miserable by ticketing their cars, towing their cars away and in general, screwing up their day.

I think you are referring to Shelley Lubben (?) a neurotic individual who is much like the evangelicals who are trying to 'cure' homosexuals. Nothing quite like a reformed  porn star, alcoholic or gay individual to try to impose their new found religion on others!

I hate to tell you this, but marriage also ends up badly for many, many women. In fact, the US Government says there are over 12 MILLION incidents of intimate partner violence every year, and over 1 MILLION intimate partner rapes. That doesn't include the over 80,000 reported rapes by strangers that occur every year. The cops manage to arrest about 20% of the rapists every year. That means that 80% of rapists are still running around, while cops are busy busting consenting adults for engaging in commercial sex.

I have been so fortunate that I have a wonderful husband who has been my soulmate and love for 36 years. But there are many, many women out there who would tell you that marriage is the worst thing ever. And being married to a law enforcement is even more difficult for women. There are studies which show that the rate of domestic violence in law enforcement families is 40%, compared to 10% in the general population. There are something like 900,000 law enforcement agents nationwide- federal, state and local. That means there are 366,000 wives, partners, children of law enforcement agents who are victims of violence at the hands of their LEO spouse/father etc. Should you be interested in viewing a list of such violent men, please visit www.policeprostitutionandpolitics.com and look for the article entitled "Intimate Partner Violence by Law Enforcement Agents..."
