Comic-Con Stays In San Diego One Extra Year; L.A. Will Have To Wait

Despite entertaining come-ons from Los Angeles and Anaheim, Comic-Con will remain faithful to San Diego for at least one more year.

San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders announced that the convention that has become a darling of Hollywood, the pop-culture cognoscenti and hot chicks who need a pre-Halloween excuse to dress in costumes, is staying put through 2016, a spokeswoman confirmed to the Weekly. He revealed the deal ...

... during public comments he made yesterday, the spokeswoman said.

The agreement only keeps Comic-Con in town for one more year beyond what it had previously committed, giving organizers some room to play L.A., O.C. and even Las Vegas against San Diego once more, it would seem.

The convention's last San Diego deal expired this year, and organizers milked it for 300,000 square feet of free meeting space at the Manchester Grand Hyatt, San Diego Marriott and Hilton San Diego Bayfront.

The number of rooms available for attendees was doubled to 14,000, too. In exchange, Comic-Con promised to stay through 2015.

Mayor Sanders is leaving office soon, so who knows what will happen. But we kind of doubt Comic-Con really wants to move. It's a nice getaway for Hollywood each summer. Who wants to stay in L.A. in July?

When I as 11 I dreamed of going to a comic con one day... Then I realized ever comic book I was buying was the same goddamn story, over and over again... Now I take drugs; cause not every trip is the same.

No. Half the fun of Comic-Con is leaving the convention center immediately followed by getting drunk and weird in the gaslamp district.

I think Comic-Con should travel to different cities.
