Authorities say they have their man in that horrific Molotov cocktail attack in which a 54-year-old was set on fire.

Jacob Timothy Lagarde was charged with attempted murder and five other felony counts related to the firebomb crime in Long Beach that was caught on tape, the L.A. County District Attorney's office announced late yesterday.

Here is the book that was thrown at him, via the D.A.'s statement:

In addition to attempted murder, Lagarde is charged with one count of explosion with intent to murder, one count of explosion causing mayhem or great bodily injury and three arson counts, according to the complaint. The complaint also alleges that Lagarde personally used a deadly and dangerous weapon and that he personally inflicted great bodily injury upon the victim.

After he was arrested Tuesday, Long Beach police said he was an "out-of-town" gangster on probation.

Lagarde was nabbed at an apartment complex in the 7800 block of East Spring Street, apparently based on a tip after security video of the fire was circulated, cops said.

The violence erupted shortly before 7 p.m. on Oct. 19 when a suspect walked up to a man sitting next to El Paisano Super Market at 245 W. Pacific Coast Highway and threw the cocktail, engulfing the victim in flames.

The 54-year-old guy suffered burns to his lower body, hands and face but survived, according to the D.A.'s office.

Why'd the suspect allegedly do it? If prosecutors think they know, they're not saying. There was some speculation that perhaps the target was the market and not the man.

Lagarde has a record that includes robbery, grand theft and narcotics allegations, the office stated. His bail was recommended at $1.2 million.

Police asked the media not to publish photos of him because they were still trying to get witnesses to pick him out of lineups.

What a vile cowardly act. We need to totally reform our system of justice so people like these swing by a rope two weeks after their trial when found guilty like they used to do in this country once upon a time while reducing the fines on minor infractions and removing petty laws off the books alltogether. Both ends need to be fixed. Hang the murderers and vile creatures like this but stop pounding the population on nothingness.
