Kendrick Lamar Flash Mob Near Staples Draws LAPD Response (PHOTOS)
*Skateboard Riot in Hollywood ...
Another youth gathering gone out of control in L.A?
Not entirely. It looks like this one was behaved. But a Compton rapper named Kendrick Lamar did appear to attract hundreds of fans to streets outside Staples Center last night to deliver an impromptu concert promoted, at least in part, on Twitter.
Cops showed up ...
... to Figueroa Street near Staples as traffic was snarled and crowds filled a parking lot, but it didn't seem out of control.
The flash mob scene happened following a Lakers game at Staples Center. (The Lakers lost).
Lamar performed from the open top of a red tour bus. His major-label debut, good kid, m.A.A.d city, is out today.
Here are some photos of last night's event.
[Added at 11:56 a.m. Monday]: Looks like Lamar's debut album just got the endorsement of the New Yorker's influential pop critic, Sasha Frere-Jones (subscription only).
[Update at 12:06 p.m. Monday]: Police tell the Weekly there were no arrests. Officers were sent to Figueroa and 12th streets about 8:30 last night based reports of crowds in the streets, we were told.
