Proposition 36 Passes Overwhelmingly, Softening California's Three Strikes Law

Proposition 36, which softens California's controversial "three strikes" law, will pass easily, according to the Associated Press.

With 28% of precincts across the state reporting, the measure is way ahead, with 68% of the vote.

That means that as many as 3,000 inmates will soon be eligible for reduced sentences.

"It shows that millions of people in California want a fair and sensible justice system," says Michael Romano of the Stanford Three Strikes Project, "and that criminal justice reform is not just what people want, it's good politics."
