At least two people, possibly three, were shot outside a Halloween party at USC overnight.

The attack on Trousdale Parkway was reported sometime before midnight, according to our City News Service feed.

Three people were initially said to have been hit. The Los Angeles Times said it happened outside a Halloween party on or near campus:

The attack just adds to the craziness as three people were shot along Hollywood Boulevard tonight, prompting a massive LAPD response and a temporary closure of that street near Whitley Avenue.

(See more on that in the featured post, top left, or in the next post, below).

The LAPD told CNS that at least two people wounded in the attack.

The campus sent an electronic alert to students telling them to stay indoors.

[Updated at 10:12 a.m.]: Campus public safety officials say four people were injured, one critically, in the 11:35 p.m. (Wednesday) attack at the Ronald Tutor Campus Center.

Two people were taken into custody, and a suspected shooter would be booked on suspicion of attempted murder, police said.

The gunfire erupted after two males, neither a student, began to argue at a Halloween party, apparently: One of those people was shot and then hospitalized in critical condition, authorities said. Three bystanders were wounded.

A campus alert telling students to stay indoors following the gunfire was lifted at 2:15 a.m.

[Added at 10:28 a.m.]: The USC Daily Trojan says the event was a costume party called "Freak or Greek." The violence happened about 100 yards from the party, the paper said.

About 1,500 people showed up for the festivities.

The suspects were said to be about 19-years-old.

Freshman Christina Nour told the paper:

I heard three gunshots ... there might have been more than that. Then I ducked. It didn't feel real. It felt like it was a movie because I really haven't experienced anything like this before. I was running as fast as I can, trying to make sure I didn't get trampled or tripped. I just ran as fast as I could, as far as I could.

USC VP for student affairs Michael L. Jackson issued a statement saying that people without IDs from campus or other universities were not supposed to be allowed at the event:

The incident occurred outside a Halloween student party at the Tutor Campus Center. Several officers from the Department of Public Safety were monitoring the area near the party. The officers witnessed the shooting and apprehended two suspects as they fled the scene.

[Added at 10:46 a.m.]: The Los Angeles Times reports that the young man targeted by the shooter is "former Crenshaw High School football star Geno Hall."

He apparently tweeted this before the attack:
