Food Trucks Booted From LACMA Area During Day

Food trucks, those ubiquitous attractions along Wilshire Boulevard's Museum Row for hipsters and tourists alike, are getting the boot.

The L.A. City Council voted last week to prohibit the trucks from parking on Wilshire between Fairfax Avenue and La Brea Avenue between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Is this a holiday gift to area restaurants?

It's not clear. City records show that a food truck employee from Border Grill, the restaurants co-owned by famed chefs Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger, spoke to the council (to no avail, it seems).

If we recall there was some beef a few years back about the trucks taking up parking in the Miracle Mile, with battles to reserve spaces in the area.

Restaurant operators in the area around the L.A. County Museum of Art have argued that the trucks drain their business.

The City Council measure was carried by councilmen Tom LaBonge and Paul Koretz.

The rule applies to trucks more than 22 feet long and/or more than 84 inches high.

No offense, but I didn't find LACMA food choices that appealing. Just saying...bring on the food trucks.

Smells like the surrounding restaurants bought off city council to shoo the food trucks away because they're attracting the customers that the restaurants have been used to getting. Politics 101. When you're no longer competitive because your products suck/are overpriced, buy a politician to enforce your business model. Crony capitalism exists all over, not just at the federal level.

The food truck fad is over. Create a real establishment if you want to succeed at selling food.

How does a city justify a huge tax/rent on restaurant owners when they allow a food truck to park outside that restaurant who pay zero rent, and a small permit fee?

I dig the food trucks but they are a nightmare to get around. They should gather somewhere they won't be a total nuisance.
