The investigation into the strange death of Lee Morris, an Alaska Airlines pilot whose freeway-adjacent body was found during a layover in Burbank in October, is today a closed case, police said.

The L.A. County Coroner's office says he died of natural causes, Burbank police announced today. Coroner's Lt. Fred Corral told us his death was the result of a heart attack.

Authorities were initially alarmed because of the location of his body:

It was discovered next to the Scott Road offramp of the southbound 5 in Burbank, police said. The find was made Oct. 3.

The 55-year-old was fully clothed and had his ID on him. Cops found it odd, and we might never know exactly why he was there.

But now we know how he died, says Corral:

Natural death due to atherosclerotic heart disease -- bascially a heart attack.

A statement from Burbank police reads, in part:

As a result of the Los Angeles County Coroner's office determination, the Burbank Police Department reclassified the death as natural causes and closed the case.

The pilot from Richland, Washington was on a 3-day trip between Seattle and Burbank.

Alaska officials said he had a fiancee, children and grandchildren.
