After she was accused of drunk driving with her child in the car and then had to be tracked down after allegedly letting her child roam the City Hall while she "partied" at a nearby hotel, you probably asked how Andrea Alarcon, daughter of city Councilman Richard Alarcon, could hang on to her $130,000-a-year gig as the president of L.A.'s Board of Public Works.

Well, the short answer is that she couldn't:

The 33-year-old today announce she's resigning from the post given to her by Mayor Antonio Villagraigosa.

In a statement worthy of a Catholic confession, she said:

After much deliberate thought, I have decided to resign from my position as the President of the Board of Public Works and have submitted my letter of resignation to the Mayor. I understand and have prayed deeply on the gravity of my actions. I have profound regret for the missteps of my past and apologize to the Mayor, Council, Department of Public Works, the city family and the residents of Los Angeles.

I am grateful for the difficult lessons that I have learned and am now healthier and stronger. Through this experience, I have been reminded of my most important job - being a mom. I look forward to the next chapter in my life dedicated to my family and my daughter. I ask that our privacy be respected as we continue to heal. It has been an honor and privilege to serve this great city.

Careful now -- this could be used in a court of law!

Alarcon says the resignation is effective Wednesday.

Meanwhile she's now shot herself in the foot. And as she limps away, the cloak has dropped and it's revealing the truth behind the facade, and all the lies she's been living. It's time to clean up the city. Its time for real, solid leadership.  i don't currently see any...
