California's Latino Demographic Takeover Starts In Summer, Says Gov's Office

This is the year Latinos will overtake whites as the largest ethnic group in California.

(Pete Wilson is turning in his grave. Wait, he's still alive?!).

So says the office of Gov. Jerry Brown in a "Demographic Information" report attached to its new budget plan, released this week.

In fact, the gov's office has pinpointed the Golden State's ethnic tipping point:

In July of 2013 whites and Latinos will each represent 39 percent of the Golden State's population. After that it's downhill for the gringos, with Latinos taking over slowly. Very, very slowly.

According to the governor's report:

It is projected that in July 2013, the non‑Hispanic White and the Hispanic population will each represent 39 percent of California's population. Later in the fiscal year, for the first time since California became a state, the Hispanic population will become the largest group in California.

That's not a big surprise if you've been reading these pages. But it does appear to be the most specific prediction for the reconquista of California.

While some of you think California is turning into Tijuana (sure, David Geffen lives in a hellhole called Malibu), the Latino demographic influence could be a good thing.

You see, our population is getting older as a result of declining birth rates and slowing immigration.

Latinos, at least, are trying to keep us young. Brown's office:

Immigration and the somewhat higher birth rates of immigrants will prevent a declining population, but will not stop the effect of the aging of the baby‑boomers. As baby‑boomers entered schools and then the workforce, society adapted to their requirements and boomers helped frame the current workforce and culture. Further adaptations will be necessary to accommodate an increasingly large number of retirees.

Wait, what? Now that the bedpan needs to be changed you're okay with brown immigrants?

Thought so.

Craziness so now when you when you write about minority issues in LA but ignore hispanics you won't be wrong because they (invisibly to your staff apparently) have become the majority

Looks like LA Mayor Tony Villar will become a CA Governor.
