Neck and neck: Garcetti and Greuel
Eric Garcetti has expanded his narrow lead over mayoral rival Wendy Greuel in the race for campaign cash.

According to campaign filings released this evening, Garcetti raised $727,000 last quarter, beating out Greuel, who raised $672,000.

Garcetti also has more money on hand, with $3.6 million in the bank to Greuel's $3.3 million.

Councilwoman Jan Perry, who has battled the perception that she is an underdog, trailed with $157,000 raised last quarter and $1.3 million in the bank.

In a statement, the Garcetti's campaign boasted that they have the momentum with two months left before the March 5 primary. "This will be one of the most expensive races in LA history, so we must keep raising money and getting out the vote every day until Election Day, and we will," said strategist Bill Carrick.

Greuel's campaign touted her grassroots support from all parts of the city.

"I will be a mayor for all of L.A. so no part of the city is left behind, and today's fundraising report is an emphatic signal that Angelenos are ready for a leader with the experience to get the city working again," Greuel said in a press release.

Including public matching funds, Garcetti has raised $4,275,000 overall, about $133,000 more than Greuel.

Meanwhile, Emanuel Pleitez announced he had raised $102,000 last quarter, bringing his total for the campaign to $213,000. Kevin James' campaign spokesman said he would release the campaign's numbers on Friday.

Update 1: Greuel's strategist, John Shallman, puts his spin on things:

"We expected Councilman Garcetti would be much higher than this given the fact that he held the City's purse strings as President of the Council. Other than being the incumbent Mayor, there is probably no better job to leverage donors."

Update 2: Kevin James raised $42,000 last quarter. He has raised $317,000 total, not counting matching funds. He has $90,000 in the bank.

Update 3: Jeff Millman, Garcetti's spokesman, responds to Shallman: "The Greuel campaign has had a bad few weeks. I'm not surprised that they're making excuses."

Who can save the City of Los Angeles from bankruptcy? – YJ Draiman for Mayor of LA

I am a firm believer that you can accomplish more with honey than with vinegar.

The City of Los Angeles is on the brink of Municipal Bankruptcy. If that happens all of LA City employees will sustain a severe economic and financial blow, which cannot be rectified. The people who reside in the City of Los Angeles will sustain much hardship if this financial situation is not resolved amicably.

I propose that all parties handling the city finances and all Union organizations and other organizations that service the city should put all the cards on the table. Show all expenses and liabilities, a conservative approach to projected revenues, no fudging of expenses or revenues.

It is in the best interests of all parties to come to a compromise.Remember a piece of cake is better than no cake at all.Eventually the cow runs out of milk.

Today’s economic and financial situation throughout Los Angeles and the rest of the country as a whole is the worst since the depression.

The City of Los Angeles must aggressively help businesses in trouble survive

The more money Garcetti  gets for his campaign the less anyone should vote for him..Wealthy out of state developers are filling his coffers..He does not have the interests of Angelenos at heart..He has sold his soul for his Mayoral Bid and lied to and fooled so many along the way.. . He cannot be trusted.. he is not his own person..He is owned by these wealthy developers whom he has already sold Hollywood to..He will do the same to the rest of Los Angeles..He will continue ignoring THE PEOPLE, as he will be beholdin to them  and OWE THEM for the rest of his political career..The thought of him as Mayor of L.A. with his unethical, corrupt behaviors, and lack of any character or honesty,  is scary, dangerous, and unacceptable.

Will Los Angeles get the Economic and Political Revolution that it so desperately needs?Only time will tell. What’s certain for now is that only when the machine and its masters no longer dictate and control L.A.’s fate can this diverse and dynamic region recover and resume its ascent toward greatness. We as voters are getting exactly what we have reaped because we fail to elect any leaders that actually know whom we are, and what we think. Our salvation can only come from our votes, and we should vote the man, not the party! Vote for the person that has proven his way from a humble beginning, and succeeded...oh yeah!
That's right! You won't find any such person because unless they sell out to a special interest group with money, fat chance they will be able to afford to compete in the arena of the privileged elite! Money actually buys our leaders even before they are elected!
The current job down turn was badly handles from the beginning and the government’s response to the crisis has, in some instances, made matters worse.

I hear that Garcetti's average donation is also the lowest in the race. That has something to do with 'grassroots,' right?
