Lance Armstrong Graffiti Pops Up On Melrose; Is It Banksy's Work?

Updated at the bottom: We figured out who the artist is. First posted at 6:09 a.m.

Leave it to Los Angeles, the street-art capital of the nation if not the world, to come up with graffiti satire in the wake of cyclist Lance Armstrong's doping admission.

This Banksy-esque take on the controversy, and other versions like it, have popped up around Melrose Avenue.

London's JalouseClub says it is the work of the world-famous street artist. But ...

... Banksy's "management" tells the Huffington Post UK that it's not his work.

The stencil-based art depicts Armstrong in his telltale yellow jersey riding with an IV bag ostensibly pumping dope into the athlete.

The IV line could also double for a rat-like tail as the rider chases cheese.

[Update at 11:01 a.m.]: A tip came in pointing to Plastic Jesus as the artist. Indeed, the artist's Lost Angeles Street Art website counts the Lance Armstrong piece among its conquests.

I don't know why you would jump to this being a Banksy stencil... If you got around you would notice that people have been HEAVILY influenced and a shit load of people now spray paint. I often see people rolling around my city with respirators on with a rattle chasing their every step. No doubt an awesome stencil but it would take close to not that much talent to make this stencil and do it yourself. Banksy goes way harder.

Yeah- NOT BANKSY. This is poorly done and lacks the biting sarcasm Banks is known for. Just because you can spray a stencil doesn't make you Banksy.

It's not Banksy. The work is too sloppy and badly executed. That's the problem, most people overlook the fact that Banksy is very good technically and artistically in addition to the important statements in his work. Have you ever seen him make statements about one individual? No, his work has broader statements about our overall society.

No. The detail isn't as good as Banksy's. This is work by Plastic Jesus.
