Mike Feuer Announces Fundraising Totals, Claims "Front-Runner Status" In City Attorney Bid

Mike Feuer, a candidate for L.A. city attorney, raised about $96,000 last quarter, bringing his total war chest to $1.2 million, his campaign announced today.

Feuer is seeking to unseat incumbent Carmen Trutanich, who got a late start in fundraising due to his failed bid for district attorney. As of Sept. 30, Trutanich lagged well behind Feuer in total contributions.

In a press release, the Feuer campaign said he had solidified his "front runner status." His fourth quarter total, however, was about $50,000 less than he raised in the third quarter. That may be due, in part, to a Dec. 3 car crash, which put Feuer in the hospital for several days.

The Trutanich campaign has yet to announce his totals for the most recent quarter. "When we're ready, we'll release our documents," said spokesman John Schwada.

Also in the race is attorney Greg Smith. Smith has raised about $750,000 -- including $650,000 of his own money.

Feuer has raised $898,000, and will receive another $300,000 in public matching funds. In a release, John Shallman, Feuer's strategist, crowed that Feuer "has a commanding lead in significant endorsements and funds raised... The momentum behind Mike's campaign is building at just the right time."

As of Sept. 30, Trutanich had raised $223,000 and qualified for another $159,000 in matching funds, bringing his total to $381,000.

Hasn't Los Angeles suffered enough from termed-out Sacramento career politicians carpet-bagging to LA to suck up the highest salaries for any elected city officials in the USA? Feuer will duck debates where he faces tough questions, like why he supported the crimewave stimulus package - AB109 realignment that is dumping dangerous felons on LA's streets because Sacramento can't afford to keep them in prison where they belong. With all his money and all his endorsements, Feuer will find himself with fewer votes than either Trutanich or Smith.

@Justinian Mike Feuer was born and raised in Los Angeles and has served L.A. for years.  So your "carpetbagger" charge is complete and utter nonsense.  But I guess you can never let the facts get in the way of good smear.  Smear away, douchebag.

Our Westwood Homeowners group has been trying to get Mike Feuer to commit to our candidate debate. He refuses unless he can dictate the rules.  Personally, I think he's afraid of us after he gave us the shaft back in the days when he was our Councilman.   He is the only candidate who hasn't agreed to participate in our forum.  Oh well, his loss.

Does anyone know if it is true that Feuer has refused any forums or debate invitations that would include opponents other than Trutanich?    If so, what would be the purpose other than to give Feuer an easier path for accumulating votes?  A more full discussion of issues might be a novel idea here.

Mike Feuer has the same ingredients in his City Attorney campaign as Trutanich had for his D.A. race, i.e. the most money, a lot of endorsements, and that knumb-skull John Shallman as his advisor.  Feuer should end up coming in 3rd place.

@Tommy_D Yeah, the same John Shallman who won 13/15 races last November.  You should be so numb, numbskull.  Btw, if you're going to use an archaic epithet, learn to spell it.

@Tommy_D Feuer might have the most money, but don't forget he has a 'high maintenance' campaign strategist who will suck up most of Feuer's money in 'expenses' just like he did with Carmen Trutanich. Third place will be a victory.
