Eric Garcetti's 5 Most Notorious "I Didn't Know" and Deceptions Caught by the Media -- A 2013 Los Angeles Mayoral Race Scorecard

Categories: Election 2013

Updated below with Eric Garcetti today telling Los Angeles Times he "has no memory" of owning a lease to drill oil under Beverly Hills. Headline has been changed to reflect this breaking news. Updated throughout.

For an Ivy League grad and Rhodes Scholar, Los Angeles mayoral candidate Eric Garcetti has the uncanny habit of not knowing certain details when facing controversy.

This happens so often that L.A. Weekly has come up with four of the most notorious times Garcetti pleaded ignorant -- or personally saw to it that other people were truly kept in the dark. Without further ado, we start with No. 4. (See the breaking news, No. 5, on final page.)

4. In 2008, Garcetti played a very shady role in keeping the Los Angeles City Council and the public ignorant about a brewing controversy over DWP's union push to control much of L.A.'s solar-panel industry, an issue on the ballot known as Measure B.

Please help

Please help stop the approx $30 million a year in Unconstitutional payments from L.A. County to the State Employed judges. Stop the bias created by the bribes in favor of L.A. County against the tax payers?

Judges validate the integrity of elections. The judges have received AMNESTY from prosecution for accepting money that was not authorized by LAW. The entire system has been corrupted.

Please help stop the waste and fraud and restore integrity to the courts.

LA County takes tax payer money then bribes the judges so they rule in favor of the County against the tax payers.

Senate Bill SBX211 is UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

Sign petition to repeal SBX211

Maybe Garcetti has a thing for breaking ground near schools while refusing to engage in open debate about it. Look up Kingsley Elementary School.

Great article

There are so many more things Garcetti's has forgotten or chosen to ignore.

DROP (as in tax payers Drop Dead) In calling himself a "leader of pension reform," Garcetti forgets that while City Council President, Garcetti stopped the DROP program from dying but instead made it permanent.  What is DROP? It's a special pension for cops who get to collect their pension and collect their pay checks at the same time --  One cop got at least $1 Million extra dumped into his DROP pension.  I like cops and firemen, and if we give them lots of money, I say Council President Garcetti should not lie about it.

He forgot about the court order not to demolish the facade of the Spaghetti Factory on Sunset when his office allegedly expedited the destruction of this history feature.

When presenting the 1601 N. Vine purchase to City Council in 2005, he forgot to show the City Council the $4 Million appraisal and only showed the Council the $5.4 Million which the seller and friend of Garcetti had obtained. The result was that the City overpaid by $1.4 Million.

Garcetti forgot that the Hollywood-Highland Project lost nearly $1/2 BILLION and that Kodak and Circ du Soleil abandoned it, Yet, Garcetti declared it "revitalized" Hollywood.

Garcetti forgot that according to his own Hollywood Community Plan, Hollywood lost 26,000 people between 2005 and 2010 when he said that Hollywood had a significant population INCREASE and we would have about 250,000 in 2030. In reality, Hollywood lost 1.4% of its population between 1990 and 2000, but after Garcetti became councilmember for CD13, the exodus increased by 400%.  However, Hollywood lost about 8,000 ppl between 2005 and 2010.

Garcetti forgot that after two years, the W Hotel sold only 15% of its condos.  Guess who dumped millions of tax payer dollars into the W Hotel?

In April 2005, Garcetti learned that the emergency response times in LA were so slow that people were needlessly dying, but he forgot this fact when a year later in April 2006, he down sized Fire Station by 75%.  Then in 2011 after five more years of slower and slower response times which meant more and more needless deaths, Garcetti once again forgot and cut $200 Million from the firemen and paramedics.  The result was even slower response time and more needless deaths.  Once in a while you hear about some kid who dies while waiting for the paramedics to arrive. Now you know whom to blame. It's not the paramedics fault; they fought against cutting their budget.  An ambulance can be only in one place at a time.
