Tuberculosis Outbreak On Downtown L.A.'s Skid Row Prompts Federal Response
The federal Centers for Disease Control says it's sending staffers to L.A. to help county and state officials deal with a tuberculosis outbreak on Skid Row.

A CDC spokeswoman told the Weekly today that staffers would likely be dispatched downtown within the next two weeks.
According to what the CDC official told the Weekly:
CDC has been invited by both the local TB program (Los Angeles County) and the California TB Program to provide assistance in conducting an investigation of a TB outbreak.

Despite this being a day after the news of the outbreak hit, the L.A. County Department of Public Health was unable to confirm even the most basic of figures connected to the spread of the disease downtown.
State health officials referred our calls to the county.
Rose Anne Rodriguez, a spokeswoman for the county department, said a statement would be released during the deadest of news times -- Friday night.
