Academy Awards Weekend Strike At W Hotel Hollywood

UNITE Here
Just in time for the glitz and glamour of L.A's annual Academy Awards weekend it's ... Latina cleaning ladies on strike!

Yeah, we'll just see if bleeding-heart Hollywood is down with this. The workers represented by UNITE Here Local 11 are going to form a picket line starting at 6 a.m. tomorrow outside the W Hotel Hollywood, the Weekly has learned.

Strikers are unhappy with working conditions and say ...

... that the hotel only allows them 25 minutes to clean each room in the upscale hotel that's home to the celebrity hot-spot Drai's.

The union described workers' issues in a flier sent to the Weekly:

Maybe you're a tidy guest. If so, thanks. But here at the W Hollywood, we housekeepers find post-party remnants like cake on the walls, broken champagne flutes, sex toys strewn about and way too many rose petals littering the floors. And no, the vacuum doesn't pick those up - we do it by hand.

Cleaning up after guests is hard work that takes time. Sadly, our managers at the W Hollywood Hotel just don't get it. So we decided to take action.

It's not the first time the labor organization has had a problem with this W. In 2011 housekeepers went on a 24-hour strike to decry what they argued was a lack of legal breaks during their workdays.

[Added at 3:30 p.m.]: The strike will happen through Oscar Sunday, we were told.

We reached out to the W Hotel for its reaction but had yet to hear back.

It is not the 25 minute window they get, it is the way companies bully employees to meet those manytimes unrealistic goals...

In fact, she's got a few unemployed friends who are deperately seeking work...any work they (the Union worker) don't want or wants to complain about.

They want to go on strike? My daughter lives right near by...she's been wanting to leave her job in Culver City. I'll have to tell her about it and cross the Union line. HA. What goes around...
