Earlier this month we told you how a study looking at geolocation data and key words on Twitter found that California has some of the happiest towns in America, including a few in Southern California.

The latest Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index seems to confirm that assertion, although the Golden State didn't make the Index's list of 10 happiest states.

Here's the deal:

The Index found that California ranked fairly high on the happy scale, scoring a 67.4 when the high end of the scale was represented by Hawaii's 71.1 and the low end was occupied by West Virginia's 61.3.

As you can see, we're closer to Hawaii than West Virginia, at least in aloha spirit.

The Index is based on surveys conducted throughout 2012, according to a Gallup statement. At least 1,000 people in each state were randomly polled on their levels of emotional health, physical health and job satisfaction.

The Western United States and Midwest together did quite well, taking 7 of the top 10 spots on the Index.

Happy now?
