Even After Election, Pro-Greuel Group Still Running TV Ad Attacking Eric Garcetti

Eric Garcetti and Wendy Greuel flooded the TV airwaves in the week leading up to Tuesday's mayoral primary. Since then, both campaigns have gone off the air and gone back on the fundraising circuit.

But that doesn't mean TV viewers can put the election out of their minds completely. Working Californians, the IBEW-sponsored independent group, is still running a negative ad attacking Garcetti on cable.

Garcetti finished first in Tuesday's primary, with 33% of the vote in unofficial returns. Greuel trailed with 29%.

According to a source familiar with TV buys, Working Californians spent $75,000 to run the anti-Garcetti spot after the election. This is the only political ad on TV right now:

The $75,000 figure is not much compared with the $1-million-a-week that Greuel and her allies were spending before the election. But it's non insignificant either. For comparison, it's more than City Attorney Carmen Trutanich was spending during his primary campaign.

Neither Greuel nor Garcetti is in a position to run their own TV spots now, because election rules forbid them from carrying money over from the primary to the general election. Both campaigns now have to start raising again from zero for the May 21 runoff.

It's like being saved from drowning then being beaten with a wet towel. If this keeps up and when Garcetti joins in, I'm gonna look for a write-in.

I am tired of the incest going on in city hall. But I guess we are voting for auntie or uncle anyway.
