May Day March In Downtown L.A. Today
While the May Day marches of yesteryear were massive, we expect they've simmered down (now). Still, labor and immigrants' rights activists are fired up this year over the prospect of immigration reform (you know, all that amnesty business) in Congress:
The International Workers Day and Immigration Reform march downtown will focus support on "Congress' decision to pass commonsense comprehensive immigration reform that keeps families together and offers a clear pathway to citizenship," organizers say in a statement.
But what you really care about is where this thing will be so you can avoid it. No?
Here's the deal: It starts at noon Broadway at Olympic Boulevard, head north, take a right on Cesar Chavez Avenue (of course), take another right on Main Street, and end up at La Plaza Park at Olvera Street (orale!).
You want entertainment as you rest your dogs? La Santa Cecilia and the Grammy Award-winner Quetzal will perform on-stage at 3 p.m.
Be there. Or not.
