Sexual Predator in Your Neighborhood? There's an App For That
And it was developed by the federal government with your tax dollars. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) arm today launched its "Operation Predator" app, the first of its kind for a federal agency:
According to ICE the app will give users alerts about wanted sex criminals, allow them to share that info with friends on Facebook and via other platforms, and inform them about arrests and prosecutions.
Oh, and, of course, it will be a conduit for tips on possible child predators, too. What every paranoid parent and busybody needs.
For now it's only available for iPhones and iPads but federal officials plan to expand it "to other smartphones in the near future," according to an ICE statement.
ICE director of public affairs Brian Hale:
... We are hopeful that this app will encourage them to submit tips about suspects and to learn more about our work investigating child exploitation crimes.
