Boston Marathon Explosions Injure Several Runners; Race Called Off

About a half-dozen people were injured in two mid-race explosions at the Boston Marathon today, according to reports.

The blasts shut down the race, although it was about half way over.

A hostage situation was underway at The Promenade at Howard Hughes Center near Westchester, police told LA Weekly.

MacArthur Park Lake: Body Pulled From Water After Man Seen Swimming

A man apparently walked into the lake at MacArthur Park and drowned this morning, authorities said.

His body was pulled from the water by L.A. Fire Department divers, LAFD spokesman Shawn Lenske reported at 11:11 a.m.

110 Freeway Shut Down, SWAT Called Out As Potential Jumper Climbs Sign On Bridge

A "possible jumper" over the 110 freeway downtown has prompted police to call out a SWAT team, the LAPD tells the Weekly.

The situation on the 7th Street bridge was reported by the L.A. Fire Department at 2:13 p.m. Police told us it was ongoing. KNX 1070 Newsradio said the scene has inspired a Sigalert for the freeway.

At least one photo of the area depicts all southbound lanes shutdown.

The San Fernando Valley Stinks

We all know the Valley stinks (says the Westsider).

But this is ridiculous. Residents this morning began reporting a foul odor, something like rotten eggs, in the northern San Fernando Valley, the Valley's foothills, parts of Simi Valley and even the Inland Empire.

In fact immediate speculation was that the smell was coming from the Salton Sea in Riverside and Imperial counties, a constant source of rotten-egg stench. Maybe not, says the National Weather Service:
