Happy Internets Day! Famous Bushism Turns Eight

Eight years ago today, in his debate with John Kerry at Washington University, then-president George W. Bush uttered one of his most famous quotes, his "Ask not what your country can do for you," or more likely his "Ich bin ein Berliner."

Pledging to maintain an all-volunteer army, he noted that he'd heard of "rumors on the, uh, Internets that we're going to have a draft," before disavowing the notion. (The video is below.) It was funny at the time -- then a reporter in St. Louis, I was in attendance -- but who knew that two full presidential terms later folks would still use "Internets" daily? Which is why we at The Informer hereby officially designate October 8 to be "Internets Day" from here forward.

DMV Computer System Goes Down for Hours

Updated at the bottom: The DMV's system is back up. AND Verizon says it wasn't its fault. First posted at 11:42 a.m.

California Department of Motor Vehicles office computers were down this morning, making a day at the DMV even more of a clusterf--- than usual.

To top things off, the DMV was urging people to try to resolve their issues by going to the department's website.

DirecTV's Olympics Closing Ceremonies Feed Goes Dark in Los Angeles

It was bad enough that Angelenos and other Americans had to endure watching key medal events long after the results had been blasted worldwide.

DirecTV subjected its L.A.-area customers to the ultimate fail last night when its feed of NBC's coverage of the closing ceremonies went down during prime time.

You see, if the actor is "winning," it sure doesn't seem like it, at least when it comes to using social media.

It appears that Sheen intended to send a direct message to the teen "bro" Justin Bieber, giving him his number. Instead, he tweeted it to the world:
