In Azusa, black residents were menaced by tattooed Latino thugs as they shopped.
A vicious, racist, father-and-son thug team tight with the Mexican Mafia, Santiago "Chico'' Rios and his deaf adult son Louis "Lil' Chico" Rios, have been sentenced to long prison terms for pouring drugs into and out of suburban Azusa -- and making it their No. 1 duty to "cleans[e] African-Americans out of the city.''

In a big win for gang detectives, the bigoted, drug-peddling Rios, 48, got 20 years in federal prison and his equally noxious son, 22, got 10 years. The pair roamed Azusa scaring the bejesus out of people, with their faces, heads and necks tattooed with "Azusa.'' In court, they were bedecked in chains:

Hopeton Parsley, a 23-year-old Westside gangster, was charged with the murder of a popular Venice youth pastor, the L.A. County District Attorney's office said today.

Parsley is said to be a member of the Playboy Gangster Crips, which claims turf about a mile south of Beverly Hills along La Cienega Boulevard. The set has long had beef with the Venice Shoreline Crips.

But youth pastor Oscar Duncan, who was from Compton, was a known peacemaker:

Sanchez.
Federal prosecutors have asked a judge to dismiss charges against Alex Sanchez, the controversial gang-intervention leader accused of continuing to be a murderous "shot caller" for the notorious Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) organization even as he glad-handed local leaders with a message of peace on the streets west of downtown.

The request, made late yesterday "without prejudice," means that the U.S. Attorney's Office in L.A. can still refile the charges, according to documents. In fact, it appears it will:

Mara Salvatrucha, the Salvadoran American group that got its start in the heart of L.A.'s Koreatown, has been designated by federal authorities as an international criminal organization, a first for a street gang.

MS-13, as it's also known, "is being targeted for its involvement in serious transnational criminal activities, including drug trafficking, kidnapping, human smuggling, sex trafficking, murder, assassinations, racketeering, blackmail, extortion, and immigration offenses," states the U.S. Department of the Treasury this week. Mayor Villaraigosa promotes Summer Night Lights.
Amid proud statistics from the mayor's office on the effectiveness of his anti-gang program Summer Night Lights since it began five years ago, a shooting at the Sun Valley Park location has "set the bar back," a member of the neighborhood council tells the L.A. Daily News.

Last Thursday night, a crowd of anti-gang workers and community members had gathered at Sun Valley Park for free food, games and conversation, as they do four days a week from 7 p.m. to midnight.

But an hour before the floodlights were set to shut off...

Pueblo Del Rio Bishops Bloods.
The Bishops Bloods gang is known for running the 52nd Street corridor on the Eastside of South L.A.

Most of the set's beefs seem to involve other African American gangs that dwell in the LAPD's rough Newton Division, but for some reason a Blood named Baby Uzi opened fire on at least two Latinos who weren't banging, killing them both.

The U.S. Attorney's Office this week announced that ...
