She had a smile for everyone, and alleged Santa Monica rampage shooter John Zawahri was no different.

An eyewitness told us the older woman known for collecting recyclables on campus was just standing upright after leaning down to retrieve aluminum and plastics from a trash can near the Santa Monica College library when she smiled at the suspect and he opened fire:

Avielle Richman: Newtown Victim From Southern California

Over the weekend we learned that one of the precious little victims of the Newtown, Connecticut mass shooting was a Southern Californian.

It appears that 6-year-old Avielle Richman moved to Newtown from San Diego in recent years. An Aug. 28 post on her blog, apparently written by her parents, says, "Our little hummingbird is starting first grade tomorrow."
